Apparently VWA dealers only update software when faults are detected during scans. Wouldn't it be safer and more prudent to update software rather than wait for a fault to occur?

Software updates can be done either through a campaign (commonly referred to as a recall), or as part of a documented fix.

I received a similar email from my dealer, even pointing out that failing to follow the recommended service schedule could void my warranty (the implication being the 6 month service was part of that schedule when it clearly isn't). On querying the dealer by email it was confirmed a 6 month service was not required. I forwarded everything on to the department of fair trading as I believe this is deceptive conduct.

Got an email last night advising me that my 6 months old golf with 10km is due for a service. Very dodgy practice...

Another thing which differs, dealer to dealer......they wanted to charge $100??? Tell them to get stuffed.

My dealer called it a 'complimentary 6 month service', so I knew I wasn't going to be charged for it from the get-go.

Just a basic check on the vehicle & topping up of windscreen fluid. They gave me the leftover fluid (near full bottle)...can't remember if I asked for it or not...

    Less than an hour iirc.

Yeah i think the best advice is to forward this to the ACCC. Also let the vw dealership know you are doing so just to enjoy them freak out
