If VW Australia are throwing in leather I'll theoretically be able to deduct the additional leather cost from my original quote then right? Also, out of curiosity does that mean VW Australia have passed on a price guide to the dealers?

    Thanks in advance Dutch77
VWA announced the changes and prices two weeks ago - this just proves the sales kiddies pretending they don't know pricing are either playing games are are numpties.

I understand this didn't work for you when you tried to privately sell your Golf GTI Mk6, and you can justify your position accordingly. However, from this single experience or even any previous ones, would you never try to sell your future cars privately? If as you say you would rather avoid all the tools who made your private selling experience a pain, well that's fair enough. I agree time poor people need not bother either.

In my case, I pocketed around an extra $4K in selling my Golf GTI Mk5 car privately, so it was a no-brainer for me. I realise I was probably lucky to have found the right buyer at the right time. The discount I received on my Golf R would have been the same.
I might have misunderstood your comment.

My point was related to whether playing games with trade ins at a dealer such as VW has any impact - it doesn't as they won't sell my car, ergo its standard wholesale price. And yet again reminds me which dealers don't get my business when they waste time with their 'we need to see your car before we can talk numbers' crap.

Obviously if you can sell for more privately then it's a winner.

I've tried on both GTIs and couldn't find buyers either time even when taking the price well under market. I ended up with one guy swapping mobiles and pretending to be someone else at one point, that's the kind of tools I'm talking about. And yeah, these days I have been very time poor due to a variety of reasons - even if the wheel thread doesn't prove this - and I valued my little bit of family time over dealing with Mr $5k under market anymore.

I do toss a lot of money aside on cars but I reckon the three VWs we have owned have been the worst of all of them.

    Meh, still a fan.

Yeah I really don't have the time to sell privately. I have sold privately in the past but this time, it's just easier for us to do a trade in and I'm fully aware of the amount I'll lose out in this scenario.

Keen to see how much I can push the price down from the quoted RRP.

Good to hear. I hope your S3 sedan, when it finally arrives, lives up to your expectations. The Volkswagen group of companies appreciates your loyalty.

My dealer said they got confirmation of pricing on Tuesday, hence why I was able to work out a firm price. That being said they still can't generate a contract with MY16 on it as they're 'not in the system yet'.
It shouldn't stop a dealer doing a contract - I ordered my MY16 GTI-PP 2 weeks ago when it wasn't on the system and they just added in the Special conditions that it had to be a MY16 build.
I've since been given the build details and it's probably being made next week.

I sold my MY11 GTI Privately on Carsales.
    I had:-
    29164 - Result Views
    1432 - Detail Views
    30 - Saves
Took exactly a month, had 2 people look at the car and another 5 people ask about it.
It's hard to be exact but it probably took about 8 hours of my time including doing the photos.
I'd say I'm about 4k better off not trading the car in , so that works out at $500/hour.
For that amount of money I think it's worth you're time even having to deal with idiots, I had a few also.
I think the 2 best ways to get a sale is take good photos and Showcase the Ad - I saw double the amount of people viewing the Ad when it was Showcased.

I'm not sure how much sense this makes, that you don't have time to sell privately, but shopping around for the best price on a new Golf wagon takes time as well, though I appreciate you only mentioned doing business with the one dealer. In reality, as every dealer has their own distinctive overheads costs and therefore its own minimum sell price, prices suggested by others in this forum may be more or less than your dealer's minimum sell price. You really can't avoid shopping around to obtain the best price. I personally had no luck with this dealer when I was purchasing my Golf R in 2014, even though I thought I was a good customer of theirs, getting most of my previous car repairs done there. I even had a dummy contract written up 2 months before launch, subject to final specification and agreed pricing. I ended up taking my business elsewhere, where they seemed more interested in selling me a new car. One thing I should mention is that qualifying for corporate pricing is a definite advantage, though I think some people in this forum have argued that it isn't.

Big difference between selling privately and organising a new purchase - if you know what you want obviously - unless you get lucky early in the private sale process.

No, they'll be including most if not all on road costs in December and June as usual. It is only a mid-life update so supply will not be as limited as it is at release of a completely new series.

If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

There’s been a few interesting articles on Arstechnica about Android Auto(AA) and what it can do, it’s not just mirroring the phone onto the Headunit.
I’m sure a lot of people don’t realise but the GPS location sensors like, Compass, Gyroscope and the GPS antenna are used on the car and feedback to the phone which then displays the position on Google maps on the headunit in AA mode.
So if you go into a tunnel the Google maps interface will correctly show the position using the wheel pulses when there’s no GPS signal.
It also means you don’t have to use the GPS antenna on the phone, you’re using an external antenna on the car which will be more accurate.

Other interesting things - it’s possible for the AA to adjust the HVAC to lower fan noise if you press the microphone to ask it a question. (I’ve got no Idea if VW have implemented this or not).

Arstechnica also found that AA can also read back from the car all of this sensors info:
Compass, Car Speed, GPS, Night Data, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, RPM Data, Odometer, Environment Data, Pressure, Temperature, Fuel Level, In Distance, In Percentile, Low Warning, HVAC Data, Current Temperature, Target Temperature, Gear Data.
So it’s possible they could also build a virtual Dashboard of info if they want to in AA.
Again I don’t know if VW have all this sensor data available.

In the AA app this data can show up in the “car” screen but at the moment this just takes you back the VW interface.
In the Article it shows they could display - Service History info, Vehicle check data like Windshield washer fluid level, check tire pressure. The good thing as it’s a phone app it can be updated easily unlike the headunit.

I’m also guessing if you have a i-fruit phone this data will also be available.

True, but 41 driveaway for a my16 dsg is still a while away.

How much of a while that is would depend on how old you are...but for most people, December will be here much too soon.
