Make sure you have it in writing, so if anything does happen you have something to back you up.

VW gave me a price today for a MY16 $49,500 drive away for golf gti pp with mats and tint. You guys reckon that's a good deal? Delivery end of August.

My dealer won't talk price until the end of the week when the official pricing comes through in the 'system' apparently. That price sounds about $4000 off full price I think? I'd say it's a good (not awesome though) price for what will be one of the first MY16's. I doubt anyone will get an awesome price while demand for MY16's is high.

Yes that's true, he was the first dealer to quote me under 50k or quote at all. Going to see if I can push it to 48K. That would seal the deal otherwise I'll wait for the official pricing.

I have seen two price lists for the MY16 Golf. One is “plus on roads and dealer delivery” and the other “driveaway”, the driveaway being the more favourable for the purchaser.

After an unpleasant experience with one dealer I suggest you write in the special conditions what is not negotiable (“Must be MY16 ….. etc). Another dealer told me the contract is binding but they can “adjust” the specification. I am not a lawyer but know if someone presents you with a contract it is going to have conditions favourable to them.

Watch out for the clause where they give you three days to agree to a price increase. I changed it to 7 days.

The other thing I learnt is when you agree to a price put down a deposit and exchange contacts immediately.

In my case I got what I thought was a good deal but accepted the dealer’s excuses about exchanging contracts (was not concerned as they had told me they had confirmed my order with VW Australia, “it’s my RDO”, etc).

When I did go in I was told the car was no longer “available” but a more expensive model was. I suspect they decided they used the time to find a better deal for themselves.

So much for VW Australia wanting to improve the “customer experience”.

Thanks for the tips BF! I normally don't read the small print and see it as a necessary evil that you can't change when buying a car...

When I bought my MY16 GTIPP they wrote in the "Special Conditions" box on the New Vehicle Contract:
"Contract is subject to supply of MY2016 Golf GTI Performance".
I've since been given a printout from the salesman from the VW NADCON system showing all the dates of the build, shipment, arrival etc.
My car is probably being built this week or next week and I should see it Mid Oct.

If you're having issues getting a dealer to commit to a price then try another dealer - mine has been great so far.

Is this vw nadcon printout something that every dealer should be able to provide
