There are few options
Get custom mats made like Matcraft offer (WA supplier) - they made custom mats for my S3 with logo stitched on
Install an alloy heel pad
Custom cut your own rubber mats
Maybe you guys can advise me? My previous car had factory carpet mats. They were nice but pain to keep clean given the car was my daily driver and I play a lot of sport and drag all sorts of stuff into my car no matter how well I clean my feet/shoes. I also ended up with a nice big 'divot' in the mat where my heel rests while driving. I was never that bothered with that car, but I am with my GTI.
I want nice rubber mats that are easier to keep clean and more wear resistant than the carpet ones I received with the car. What are my options? Those monster mats you can get in the US look awesome but they are only made for LHD cars.

I just bought a set of plain and hard-wearing black carpet mats with a rubber/plastic base from KMart, and placed them over the factory mats. In my S3 I just use a small rear mat over my driver's mat as I'm always careful (and it protects the factory mat from any heel damage); the passenger footwell gets a full-sized one. Personally I don't care too much about the aesthetics when it comes to the footwell, but black carpet > rubber IMO, and absorbs general dirt and grit rather than allowing it to roll around like rubber can.

Yeah carpet mats are the way to go. If you take them out regularly and beat them you will get the dust and dirt out. I use my carpet attachment on my Dyson and it does a really good job of getting them clean.

I care about aesthetics in a good car. If it was a work truck, no.
Gotta use what works though.

Booked my MY15 R in for a service on Thursday and asked about an update to the Stereo and they said any updates are normally charged!! Wtf. I didn't even get around to asking if the MY16 radio could be installed into my car.

Yeah, if it involves maps, then they typically charge $55 (that's what it was in May for my Tig). What was nice was they did the maps and then coded up the Nav screen in the dash as I retro-fitted the RNS and didn't have a VCDS to do it myself (I didn't ask them to - win).
I did ask a dealer the other week about putting the MY16 head unit I an MY15 car (as they were selling a new one with $10k discount) and they said it can't be done. I never dug much deeper to see if that was a won't rather than a can't.
