Let me know what they charge you to install map care as I haven’t got round to asking my local dealer yet. I need the same on my 2013.
... and that's a bust
Looks like it just downloaded P57_N60S3MIBS2_ROW_NT.7z which is what I've already tried
so the card was updated to a 2020 map (late 2019 I'd say)
Car sees there's a nav database on it but then refuses to load it - just like when I did all of this manually
So I'm back to trying to find a dealer that knows how to enable MapCare on the old 2013 MIB1 units

Yep - that file (P57_N60S3MIBS2_ROW_NT.7z) has the correct directory structure - and it also has the "aus" folder! So, it should work for MIB1.
Don
PS:As I have said previously, the dealer will likely charge for the minimum time for the master-tech (which is one-hour - about $200). It shouldn't take anywhere near one-hour to load MapCare
So -if you intend to throw money at a dealer for MapCare - i suggest that a better way to get more bang for your bucks is to ask for the latest update of the firmware in the hex5F module (the infotainment unit in the glove box that operates SATNAV). A hex5F update should contain MapCare and it shouldn't cost any more !! And with the updated firmware, you should also get the added benifit of better pronunciation of the SATNAV voice messages (still not good - but better than on the original firware)

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
Thanks for confirming that
Yeah I read that and thought well at least $200 is less than the amount I was quoted for a new SD card ($250+)
OK thanks - I will recite these words very carefully to the service managers and hopefully they will understand them - or at least enough of them
kidding aside, the service guys at my local VW have been excellent so far so it should be interesting if I can get more wallet friendly rates (perhaps if I combine the update with a service they'll be a little more generous)

Maybe this could be helpful as cant find any Mapcare files

Mamba Ebike to replace Tiguan
Well I've totally given up
Bought one of those Wireless Carplay/Android auto devices from Ali Express for about $50 more than the software upgrade would've likely cost
Plugged it in (well, BETWEEN the head unit and the control module) and wrestled with the cables so that I could get the control module back in
Now I have Wireless Carplay with Apple Maps/Google Maps/Waze
Rolled the dice on Ali Express and came up a winner so far

Has anyone managed to do the 2022 update without buying a new SD card? eg just by copying the updated AU files across. Or is it more complicated than that? <edit: I tried this, retained the same directory structure etc, and it comes up with an error>
I've just spent an afternoon trawling through different websites and solutions. I have an early 2015 R with MIB1 Discovery Media and the 8GB VW SD Card. I installed 2020 maps using the app a few years back so they are mostly up to date but don't include a new freeway in Melbourne that I use often, so it's a bit annoying.
It appears that the P57_N60S3MIBS2_ROW_NT file is the correct one for the 2020 update, but that is the latest one that is listed by VW on their update website.
The 2022 files are only available for MIB2 or Discovery Pro, so even if I got a larger card I'm not sure they would work (this is the file named P333_N60S5MIBH3_ROW, which when extracted has a subfolder labelled as MIB1 but is still 24Gb)

Kev: :You have answered your own question - I've edited your post above showing your answer!!
I suggest that you attempt to find a solution to cold fusion rather than trying to find a way to make the update maps for a Discover Pro (or, MIB2) work on a MIB1 Discover Media unit!!
I suspect that it's a futile exercise - even if you manage to buy a "new SD card", alas!!

I was encouraged by the inclusion of a MIB1 folder with the right structure in the Discovery Pro zip file, and thought it might be as simple as updating the files with the same names, but that didn't work.
I've seen a separate thread on Whirlpool where a person tried a similar thing but couldn't get it to work unless they also created an MD5 file, which was successful on a previous update. If I get a few hours I might give that a try as a last resort before giving up.
