@hoskrunner: hmm...... it really all depends!!
The MIB units on the first release mk7s in Australia in 2013 were relatively rudimentary and in particular for the purpose of SANAV function, these units assumed that map updates would be undertaken by the dealer (using their ODIS tool)
DIY map updates on Australian mk7s came along after the first release cars and for this purpose the MIB needs a piece of software called "VW Mapcare"!
I'm guessing of course - but I suspect that your MIB (the infotainment "brains" that has the 2 x SD slots) is missing the Mapcare software. If this is the first time that you have tried a map update on your car via the DIY method - then this is almost certainly the reason for your problems.
Alas, Mapcare authorization is a dealer thing - but once installed, map updates should work.
Now, I'm not sure how much VW will charge for this software (normally any work at a dealer is costed at a price approaching the annual budget of a small African nation
).
My understanding is that the minimum time for ODIS access is one hour and the current cost is around $220 (which is outrageous IMO)! It shouldn't take anywhere near 1 x hour to install Mapcare - but this is a case where the dealer has your family jewels firmly in their grip and it's only a matter of how much they squeeze
!!
