    VW Golf highline - 2014 - Tune & Exhaust

    Hey Fellow Golfers,

    I have a 2014 (Sep-2014) 103TSI Golf Highline with Rline package, done around 70Ks. I believe its a Mk7, please I got it wrong.
    I do the like the turbo in this, but looking for a bit more from it in terms of performance, bearing in mind i do not want a crackle/pop with exhaust & would love a good sounding exhaust with a nice roar without being too loud.
    Being new to modifications/tunes, i I am eagerly looking for some wise advise. My questions as below;
    - Is Stage1 tune recommended & will help improve the drive performance?
    - Does Stage1 needs to be mixed with exhaust upgrades?
    - If so, what exhaust should i go for, heard some terms (catback, downpipe etc.) but not sure?
    - Any other mods that needs to be done?
    - Where in VIC/Melbourne is the best place to get these done reliably & without burning a hole in the already stretched purse?
    - Any other suggestions? Or thoughts where its worth doing this?
    - Knowing the approx cost from anyone who has done this before will be great too?

    Appreciate all inputs on these to help me decide please?

    Thanks in advance.

    Its not really worth the cost to upgrade the downpipe on the 1.4TSI because the turbo is very small and its basically 95%maxxed out with a stage 1 tune. So if you want some more sound you can either get a new catback exhaust which replacing everything from about where you sit to the rear of the vehicle. A cheaper option is to remove the resonator in the factory exhaust which will give some more sound.

    As for a tune, if you want an off the shelf tune, then Racingline due a tune for this engine. You can look up their dealer network here, but one I know of off the top of my head is Faststuff in Mordialloc, but there are several other dealers in Melbourne. Otherwise if you want something more customised, go see either the guys at Underground Performance in Cheltenham, VTuned in Tullamarine or 3bar Tuning in Skye.

    Thanks mate. Pardon my naive questions - Can Stage1 tune be done by itself or has to be done along with DSG tune? Also, I do see there are lot of online sites from where the Stage1 kits can be bought instead of getting done at some tune shop, is it easy to do the stage1 by oneself or needs expertise?

    Have a look here for info on tuning the TSI if you want it to go without having to dig too deeply into bigger turbos/engine swaps etc. Project 145TSI

    For your car I'd recommend an intake from MST, and both a DSG tune and an ECU tune from Racingline. Doing the ECU without doing the DSG will prematurely wear out the clutches in the DSG which will be expensive to replace down the track. With Racingline you get local backup, which you won't get with an online tune "kit" plus that online "kit" won't be specific to your car model ....

    Exhaust wise, a cheap solution for a nicer sounding exhaust is to fit a MK7 GTI exhaust. You will need a MK7 GTI rear valance to fit that.
