    Hey guys,

I’ve played around with my headlight adaptions on OBD11 (and stupidly didn’t make a back up) to code the CH/LH function to use the LED DRLs on my Golf, i then after a while changed the brightness down to 40% of the DRLS in the CH/LH function but when doing this my DRLs stopped working in the headlight off and auto modes (with low beam off). I tried to un-do my changes and now have DRLs back, but they’re running at full brightness in all headlight switch positions and in the CH/LH function. Does anyone know correct coding to have the DRLs dim when the low beam is activated and how to code the DRLs to function at reduced brightness for coming/leaving home?

OBD11 tracks the changes made to your car in the history. you should be able to just look up the previous values when the changes were made.

I've coded my fog-lights to act the same as my "U" DRLs (lighting package on 2015 Canadian SEL / Highline GSW TDI).

So - my fog lights are always on when I'm driving. I think I also coded them to switch OFF if I pull the headlight switch knob outward (the normal "turn on" action).

I can live without that, though - I don't think I've used it once in the 2+ years I've had it set up like this.

What I'd like to do is code that "pull out" action to turn on rear fog light (which I don't have installed yet - I have the bulb in, but it's just another bulb/light in my rear signal/brake light cluster now.

So - once I run the wire from the rear light(s), where does it terminate up front?; and how would (or could?) I code the switch to turn on that rear fog?

    Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone (maybe Don if I'm lucky!) will be able to help me with my lights trouble.
I've spent a long time browsing through this thread (all 161 pages!) but despite what I can piece together, nothing seems to work.

The main issue is the DRLs on my lights are too bright when I have my low beams on. The wrinkle is I have a pair of replica xenons as a retrofit to my originally halogen-equipped car. This is now my second set (sadly I was involved with the ill fated Winpower group buy).
As such the new LED U is now mapped to the DRL / parking light function of the H15 bulb in the original halogen cluster.

On the previous winpower cluster I had coded the DRL to stay on as a dimmed function when low beam was active, but it didn't seem to translate to the new ones.
I know that the DRL is mapped to its own channel because I've managed to restore the DRL wink when indicating, and when you unlock the car the headlights will activate without the DRL/LEDs lighting up. I just can't seem to separate the two!

So far I've worked on lichtfunktion G4 and G5 channels corresponding to LB4 and RB32. Here's what I've got set at the moment:

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful!

hmm........no offense, but that's a mighty strange group of leuchte- commands for the DRLs!!. If my reading is correct, you appear to have negated the low-beam function entirely via the command on Leuchte4TFL LB4-Lichtfunktion G 4 (same for RHS lamp). You have a dimmwert value of 0 and a dimming direction of "minimum" for this "G" Leuchte-alpha - which means that the 2 x DRL lamps shouldn't participate in the low beam function at all.
Given that the DRLs do actually illuminate for low beams, I suspect that there is additional circuitry in the physical fittings for this activity. I don't know which particular replica fittings you have - but I've found from previous inquiries from forum colleagues that it's not unusual for the DRLs to be "hard-wired" in the fitting enclosures on some fittings. Could this be so on your replicas?

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

    Hi Don,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I'll admit I've tried a huge number of variations to see whether I can change their behaviour - I ended up with the current set of adaptations because I ran out of time and it didn't seem to affect anything.
I agree with your point their may be extra circuitry, but the thing going against that is when I unlock the car the "welcome" feature activates low beams without the DRLs. I just can't seem to separate the two when the car is running.
Would you have a suggested approach I take to try and troubleshoot it? I wouldn't want you spending a whole lot of time explaining step by step instructions, but any general principles would be greatly appreciated!

Note 4: this adaptation channel change adds "Automatic closing in rain" as an option-panel in the Discover Media menu screen (see Part 3)
    13. Exit the VCDS software and remove VCDS cable from the OBDII port

    Go to Part 3

Part 3: Auto RainClose - In-Car, setup procedures
Auto RainClose - Factory reset procedure
This tweak requires that the control unit be reset after the coding changes above have been made. This is done using the following steps:

    1. Press the CAR button on the RH side of the Discover media Unit
    2. Press the set-up panel on the bottom RH side of the screen
    3. Select Factory Setting panel (it's the very last entry on the list)
    4. On the Factory Setting screen, select Reset Mirror and Wiper Settings
    5. Press the Reset panel

    Auto RainClose -Menu enabling procedure
For Auto RainClose to work, the function must first be enabled in the Discover media screen. This is done using the following steps:

    1. Press the CAR button on the RH side of the Discover media Unit
    2. Press the set-up panel on the bottom RH side of the screen
    3. Press the Opening and Closing panel
    4. Place a tick in the Automatic closing in rain panel as shown in the picture below.
    5. Make sure that the settings for all other options (especially in Opening and closing) are appropriate and that they have not been changed by the factory reset process above (e.g. check that Convenience opening option isn't set to "off")
    6. Exit the screen

Auto RainClose - Test and operating procedure
    1. Make sure that the wiper stalk is in the rain sensing position (i.e. up one position) and that the headlights are switched to the Auto position
    2. Wind down one, or more windows, and/or sunroof
    3. exit and lock the vehicle using the remote fob or KESSY
    4. Wait a minute, or two and pour water on the rain sensor, or tap the rain sensor with your fingers.
    5. The open window(s)/sunroof should close

Note 5: a further feature of this tweak is that if the window(s)/sunroof is left open for an extended time (generally overnight) without rain, or intervention, the open aperture(s) will be automatically shut.

    Feed-back from forum members:
i tried this on my golf mk7... i am pretty sure everything is correct as i triple checked it...

but my rain closing is still not working...

From lots of previous quotes, it works on some cars and not others. Mine too does not work. A little disappointing.
