    Could you perhaps elaborate?
There are a bunch of people here, myself included who drive a 7.5 model and would love to enable TJA.

^^^ hmm......... lots of secret PMs and covert information floating about in the background about the illusive TJA tweak.

    Why?

Isn't the objective of forums like this about the open sharing of new discoveries? If folk need kudos to share, then simple attribution can be provided by those who benefit from tweaks. Sure there's lots of outright plagiarism on these forums, but hell.... we aren't talking about the secret formula to eternal life!! And in any event - plagiarism is the most sincere form of flattery!!

My experience with these types of discoveries is that trying to restrict information has only temporary success. Fairly soon after someone knows the answer, the secret will be revealed to all

So, lets just skip the I know and you don't know bit and move directly to the we all know stage - as a properly functioning community forum should

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

Whilst I agree with your general idea that information should be free people have spent considerable time and effort to reverse engineer the datasets required to make this work.

I think those people deserve to be compensated.

It's not just a simple matter of changing some coding any more for a lot of these things these days.

Also the tools required to apply these changes are not free.

And I know you are not a fan of IP infringement.

So if people want to get this sort of thing enabled they have choices:
    Pay to play
Buy their own tools, learn how to use them, gather the required information and test.
Buy a newer vehicle that has the feature factory enabled.

    Just my 2c

    ^^^ hmm....... OK.

    Don

PS: I do indeed respect IP and I wasn't aware that these tweak instructions were actually being sold to folk as a commercial venture -to me, using the guise of "normal" posts and PMs is the stuff of "normal" interactions between "normal" colleagues - perhaps I'm mistaken, but it's not the normal vehicle for marketing a service for a fee on any of the many forums that I regularly visit (there is no mention of a fee-for-service in any posts above).

In my naivety and without any mention of money in the stuff above, I had thought that this was an open community exercise. I had assumed that the numerous TJA posts by many of our forum colleagues -who openly shared their knowledge and freely gave their experimental results contributed to the solution. But if you are saying that the open work of these forum colleagues was not significant and that the vital piece of the jigsaw puzzle was the sole IP of the discoverer, then you have a valid point.

But please - to ensure that others don't fall into the same trap as me, I urge that there be more openness about the commercial nature of this matter. I think that we would all agree that there is ample and necessary room on forums like this for companies that support the activities of the forum. I personally have benefited greatly by VWW's advertisers and I reckon that they do a great job. Rainesh is clearly in this category, and I applaud his (her?) contribution to the advertising revenue that he (she?) provides for this forum to operate. There's nothing wrong with being a VWW advertiser (hell.. it's a proud badge to wear IMHO) and there's certainly nothing wrong with VWW advertisers also participating in discussion - it's just important that we all know his (her) proper status when marketing the TJA product - (I think)

Hmm I'm with don on this, I thought it was a community project rather than commercial as nothing had been said about this side of things, was wondering what all the cloak and dagger stuff was all about, but thought it might be in its infant stages and it hadn't been tested thoroughly, was finding the vagueness a bit worrying

I understand the dissappoint here...however TJA is not something you can code. You need special hardware / software for it and it takes around a hour to activate it including testing.

It is a complicated process that not everybody could do. It took a lot of time and testing to get this working. If it was simple coding, i would posted it on the forum, with a howto.

That's fair enough but not at anytime has it been said it's a pay service, it led me to believe that it was completed and you just needed VCP, nowhere it was written that anyone would be charging to get this enabled,
but doesn't bother me as I already have it
