PS: Here's the escutcheon plate buttons

Hmmm yeah that's what I thought. My MK6 doesn't have VC but the button acts as a pause button. But on my Mk7 It only displays a message on my MID requesting I need a code to activate VC.

So is it broken or is it just how the mk7 works and relates to the CAN bus is configured?

Bassik: Before VC was installed in my car, the button functioned as a mute facility (without any message appearing on the MFD when pressed). That's how I believe that it's meant to operate. If this isn't happening on your car, then perhaps there's another problem - maybe.

What is the status of Byte 24, Bit 1 on your 5F module (SDS function)?

Bassik: Of course you can use OBD11 - see below (scroll down to the very end of the screen after you select coding on the 5 F Module)

If you can't get to my screenshot - simply post-up the code string for the 5F module, and I will calculate the Byte/Bit value

Reedy: Hi. My understanding is that the default status of mk7's sold in Australia is for them NOT to have VC activated -your observation that the button "mutes and pauses" strongly supports this.

Retrofitted VC is what's called "SWAP" (Software as Product) - so it needs an activation code that is tailored to your car's VIN (AFAIK)

As I said in my Vortex post, I managed to get VC installed by VW at no additional cost after I purchased my car - it took a long time and much negotiation (read "argument") with the "Customer (don't) Care" staff @ VW Aust, but eventually they agreed. However, I consider the exercise to be a waste-of-time, because I don't believe that I have used VC more than a few times in the 3 x years that I have had the vehicle - it's an interesting novelty, but I certainly wouldn't pay money to have VC installed (IMO). I think from memory that it was around $400 to get the dealer to install VC - outrageous!!

Hey Don. For the life of me can't get to this screen your showing?

    Where do I go?

I've select central electronics and then coding but everything's in German. Even tho it's in English for the settings. I can't see any bytes for anything.

Ok found it and it was set to activated.

Then set it to not activated.

    Did nothing.

Basik: OK, that's why you were getting the error message to install the activation code - because the 5F module was told that VC was installed (via the code-string setting), but the activation code wasn't entered - makes sense now!

Strange that you still don't have mute after deactivating the Byte/Bit - have you tried resetting the MIBB unit after the change ? It's done like this:
With the MIB unit turned-on press down the ON/OFF knob until the MIB unit switches-off AND keep holding the ON/OFF knob down until the unit turns-on again (about 10 seconds).

Then try the VC button(s) again
