    Hi Don,

I'm having the exact same issue with my Australian my2016, I can access the screen but cannot make the changes required to increase the instrument panel illumination.

I got both the odb11 and the Ross tech cable. I'm happy to try and figure out the security code. Maybe I'll need some help

Kiaorana: It's always an absolute pleasure to help a fellow forum member - particularly one that has an native NZ name as his (her?) handle!!!

The OBD11 method is fairly self explanatory (as per the video), but as I said, I can't get it to work. I'm a rank amateur with OBD11, so doubtless I'm doing something wrong!

Alas Mr Ross's cable doesn't as yet have the capabilities to undertake Security Code discovery (I hope that it might be able to do this in the future, but this is just a hope)

VCP really is the only way forward IMO - I can't recall, do you live in Melbourne?

    Don

Thanks Don. I'm in Brisbane unfortunately.

I befriended one of the guy at my local VW shop who admitted being into vagcom himself (he's got a Amarok). I might just ask him directly, with a hit of luck he might just give it to me.

How to change DRLs from high beam to fogs only

    Hi all

Just wondering if anyone knows how to remove DRLs from the high beam and only use the fog lights? I was able to find in the tweak thread how to enable the fog lights but I couldn't see anything regarding switching off the high beam.

    Thanks

    Ky

Hi Don -- thanks for such a generous response! I've learned so much for you on this page and others, thanks very much for your willingness to share information. As much as I want to try the "code finder," the wifi from my apartment barely reached the garage and when it works, it's really slow. Plus, the strange people in my building already give me strange looks when I sit in my car for more than a few minutes. Hopefully the iPhone will be re-jailbroken soon and I can share my 4G internet to my android "car phone," avoiding snail-speed wifi and random neighbors in the garage. I'll post back here when/if I ever find it.
    Thanks again!
    Brian

It is illegal to disable DRL if the car comes from the factory with them.
It is also illegal to drive with fogs on when there is no weather that needs them.

So both of these make the exercise a bit pointless.

Not that the illegalities will stop some from doing it

Hillbilly: Hi - long time no see! We always seem to have different views - so I won't disagree with your response in this instance. Instead, let me invite you to consider the following interpretation:

You are entirely correct in your hypothesis about the ADR's prohibitions on removing DRLs from a car if they were factory fitted!

But in this instance, Ky doesn't appear to want to remove the DRLs; he (she?) seems to want to replace the position of the DRLs from the "high beam" position (which are the inner lamps on incandescent fittings) to the fog lights. Effectively, the fog lights become the DRLs - does this contradict the removal of DRLs prohibition in the ADR?

    Don

PS: I'm trying to find the "fog light" prohibition - can you point me to the pertinent section in the ADR, please?

Don, the use of fog lights (or prohibition) is not a design requirement under ADR. It's governed by state traffic rules. See here: https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/saf...html#foglights

Same rule in Victoria, and I suspect most of the world.

    Only common sense.

^^^^^^ Arrrhhh.............. that explains my confusion!! Yes, Vic-Road Rule 217 states that drivers must not use front or rear fog lights unless driving in fog or other hazardous weather conditions that cause reduced visibility.

Thanks for the responses - Hillbilly, you are correct!
