    Hi guys,

I got a question which I've not really found answered anywhere yet. (or atleast I couldn't find it)

I've got the incandescent lights on my Golf 7 TSI Highline car, but I'm getting the R line dark LED lights retrofitted today.
As most people, I want the full cluster lights to light up when braking. I am a bit confused on what coding to use for this.

I think, that when I retrofit the LED lights, the car still thinks it has the incandescent lights, so this would mean that I would need to use the following link:
VCDS (VAG-COM) codes and programmable options for Golf Mk7

Is this true? Or does the car code itself to acknowledge the new LED tail lights which in turn requires me to use the following link:
VCDS (VAG-COM) codes and programmable options for Golf Mk7

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Much appreciated!!

EDIT: Found out myself , after retrofitting them an hour ago, I've went through this page:
VCDS (VAG-COM) codes and programmable options for Golf Mk7

So guys, if you retrofit the LED tail lights and you want the full cluster brakes, use the incandescent guide

^^^bryan. Hi glad that my tweak worked, but here's an explanation as to why it worked:

All of the mk7's exterior lighting is controlled by the BCM (Body Control Module) and in particular, a group of 35 x "Leuchte"-sets with each set having 19 x adapatation channels (i.e. total of 665 channels). Mk7s with LED tail lights have some Leuchte-sets enabled the same as incandescent tail lights, but there are also a few that are not the same.

To show how these channels are different, have a look at my spreadsheet HERE. Note the variation in the Golf R (Nut's car which has LED tails) and 103TSI (my car which has incandescent tails) for ID 1783 onwards

Whilst the BCM in a mk7 is a very sophisticated module, it can't automatically recognise the retrofitting of LED tails on a car that previously had incandescent lights. So the BCM in your car will still think that it has incandescent lamps. This is not normally a problem depending on the internal configuration of the LEDs, but if you experience issues such as flickering (particularly when the LED is dimmed), then you might need to make some changes.

I hope this explains why your implementation of a tweak that was intended for incandescent lamps worked on a car that had LED tails (because the car still thinks that incandescents are fitted)

    Cheers

From from what I have read with a golf wagon (incandescent) the same rules should apply? Ill have to have a tinker.

R wagon would have a weird set-up I assume as we have R front light with the U drls & wagon incandescent instead of LED's.

    Hi Don,

Thanks for the extensive guide on the Auto Rain Closing. I have an MY16 R Wagon and cannot seem to get this working. I've tried going through the sequence in 1,2,3 order as well as 2,3,1 with no success. I coded this up on the MK6 R and am bummed that I can't get it happening in the MK7. Any tips for me to try or has anyone else with an MY16 hatch or wagon with sunroof gotten this working?

    Thanks,
    Brad.

Brad: Yes, it's a lot easier to get working on a mk6!

Sorry, but no, I really am at a loss to make any further suggestions (perhaps others here can help). I'm not sure why some can get this tweak to work, whilst others can't. About the only extra option (untried, probably won't work) is to try doing as soft reset of the BCM at every available opportunity (before you move onto the next change). It's done using the tick box on the RT screen. Perhaps resetting the control module on-the-fly will help (I'm just guessing)?

    Cheers

DV52/Don, I'd been meaning to say something but never quite got around to it. Just wanted to say thanks for your efforts... I implemented a bunch of VCDS tweaks on my Mk7R, and vwwc was the source of knowledge for me. In particular, removing the safety warning was one tweak that I couldn't find anywhere else!

Jeremism: thank you for your kind words, but the truth is that the thread is the result of contributions from lots of forum members (including our moderator, AdamD whose idea it was to establish the thread and early, pivotal input from VWW's resident VCDS expert, Ryan_R).

If you found the information to be useful (and I'm delighted that you did) it was because the wider VWWatercooled community made it so - my involvement was just the simpler task of bringing the information together!

    @DV52

There is a #16-Lichthupe generell-Flash generally(Flashes no matter what light) option in Alpha channels.
What I understand from this channel is, when you select this alpha channel for any light, that light flashes, but I couldn't use it.

I want to flash my center brake light when in reverse gear.
    (-Leuchte22BR MA57-Lichtfunktion C 22 set to Rückfahrlicht(Reverse light)
    (10)-Leuchte22BR MA57-Dimmwert CD 22 set to 100

This will open center brake light when in reverse but I want that light to flash. How could it be possible?

    Thanks.

Kuray: Merhaba ve hoş geldiniz foruma - this is all the Turkish I know!

Please forgive me if you already know this, but Leuchte programming has a very defined and very limited role in the operation of a lamp on a mk7. The instructions in a Leuchte-set simply describes the type of signal and when it will be applied to a particular PIN on the BCM. In the case of the Leuchte-set Leuchte22BR MA57, the pin is PIN#57 on the A socket. It just so happens that this PIN is physically located on the top of the rear hatch (i.e. the 3rd brake light), but it could be anywhere!

So when an Alpha channel in the Leuchte-set Leuchte22BR MA57 is set to a function (like Rückfahrlicht for example), there must be an initiating mechanism to turn-on the lamp that is attached to pin#57 on socket A on the BCM. For the Rückfahrlicht command, this initiating mechanism is the reversing switch in the gear-box. But the reversing switch only applies to a limited number of Leuchte commands (generally those commands that have the word Rückfahrlicht in the descriptor)

The Lichthupe generell command is one of the more obscure settings and I haven't used it before. The problem is that I don't know the "initiating mechanism" for this command - sorry. You will need to experiment with this command to find the initiating mechanism- or perhaps someone else here knows how to initiate this setting once it is applied to an Alpha channel

    Cheers
    Don
