Thread: VCDS (VAG-COM) codes and programmable options for Golf Mk7

  1. #561

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following issue.

I have followed the procedures in VCDS to enable TMC in MY16 Golf 110TSI Highline Wagon, i.e. typed 1024 into the right adaptation (disconnected VCDS and reconnected) and it said 1024 but somehow when I press traffic, it says no traffic reports available and the TMC symbol at the top has a line diagonally across it. Quadruple checked that RDS region set to Automatic, radio text and traffic programme was ticked in radio. Still nothing. Rebooted the system multiple times but it didn't help either.

We did the exact same thing to my friend's Golf R Wolfsburg in my driveway as well and he got traffic reports right away. And his TMC symbol has two little rectangles rather than a diagonal line.

Any ideas why it does not work on mine? Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi again,

I have now resetted the radio to factory settings and re-vagcommed it to 1024 again and it still doesn't work.

It also does not want to allow me to install the speed camera POIs either, keep saying there is an error with the SD card. I have tried a different sd card and still no difference.

Is my system stuffed and time to tell dealer to replace it?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks all.

Can take up to 60 minutes for it to sync.
Make sure the settings are turned on in radio mode and leave it tuned to one of the rds / tp channels for that time period.

Harry: Hi and sorry to hear about your problems. I got a PM from a colleague on this forum that had a MIBII and who had problems with the TMC tweak.

His description was that the default value on the adaptation channel wasn't 0 as in my instructions and that when he finished changing the channel (to 1024), a number of weird screens started to appear on the infotainment unit. I've also read a couple of posts on the RT forum from folks having problems with MIBII and the latest RT software.

Not sure what the issue is, but the author of the PM said that everything went back to normal after he physically removed the cable from the OBDII connector. He said in his latest PM that he now has TMC working perfectly. Incidentally, I assume that you weren't using the laptop with a 240Volt AC supply connected to the laptop when you did the tweak. Depending on the quality of the AC power supply, this can cause earth-loop issues - resulting in noise and intermittent communications with the ODBII port.

If your problem persists, may I suggest that you do an auto-scan on the car and see if any error messages appear. Also, I think that it might be prudent to have a quick peek at the CodingLog.txt file on your laptop to confirm that the correct change was made (I'm not suggesting that you made an error- but I think that it's good to just discount this as a possibility). The entry in the Codinglog.txt file will tell you what the default value was for the TMC adaption channel. You might want to roll-back the setting.
Please let us know what happens- we might be able to provide further assistance once you post-up the auto-scan results and provide feedback on the codinglog.txt file information.
    Good luck
    Don

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

Thanks Don. You're right, I don't think my original value was 0. I just checked the codinglog.txt and it was 65535. Does that make a difference? Should I change it to 0 first then to 1024?

According to the codinglog, my friend's golf R was also on 65535 before we changed it to 1024.

I didn't get any weird screens after I made the tweak though.

Thanks for your help so far.

Harry:, No I don't suspect that having a default value in the TMC adaptation channel other than 0 is your problem. Have you completed the 2nd autoscan?

    Hi Harry,

I'm the colleague Don is referring to in his previous post. I can confirm that the original value was 65535, which I then changed to 1024. It didn't work at first, then after doing a reset of the unit, it all starting to sync. I hope that helps my friend.

    Hi Kiaorana,

Thanks for that. I tried doing the hold power reset and resetting factory settings via the menu, neither worked. I still don't have TMC now.

Which reset method did you use? Do you mind checking for me if your TMC logo up the top when you click traffic has the diagonal line crossed out or has TMC with the two squares.

Thanks. I will do the second auto-scan tonight and come back to you. I will also try changing it back to 65535 then back to 1024 again.

    Regards,
    Harry

    Harry,

When I first did it, it had the TMC logo with the diagonal across, then I did a resetting factory settings via the menu, and an hour or so later, I had the TMC logo with the two little squares and the traffic reports starting to pop in.

Where are you based? Stupid question, but maybe you don't get the TMC reports in your city?

    Hi Kiaorana,

I'm based in Sydney. I'm pretty sure I do get TMC reports because my friend who did it 10mins after me at my house as well got TMC reports right away. *sigh*
