DV52... I saw you post on another thread somewhere how to change the VC Voice Control button on the steer wheel to be mute/pause?

Did you know if anything eventuated from this, or if it can work?

So note that the fog wire is already on the hatch lid tail light fitting - called "tail light 2" in the picture (it's on PIN #5). So there is no need to take the fog wire to the outer tail female connector - as per the ECS instructions. Which side of the car is your LED fog light installed - is it like the NAR cars (i.e. the Left side)?

I would simply connect the old fog wire directly to the LED fog lamp on the inner tail (you might need to run the yellow/white wire to the opposite side of the hatch, if your new tails are NAR configuration)- then change the settings as per my table

Hmmm interesting, my immediate assumption is that the light is on the inner left globally (the wiring layout is certain identical on the hatch). I'll see if I can move the factory fog light line onto the fog light cavity on the harness in the morning and change the coding again.

At least if we can get this all sorted it might make for a simpler DIY job for anyone looking to use this harness rather than the more complicated factory retrofit harness.

Aaaaaaaaaand bingo. It looks like there is a fog light bulb in each tail light (makes sense, why complicate things on the manufacturing end between markets). The tailgate foglight line from the factory is on the right inner side, as suggested I've pulled the pin from the factory male adapter and then hooked it into cavity 5 on the inner right mail connector on the ECS harness, lit up like a Christmas tree once the Leuchte26NSL coding was re-entered . This makes the fog light wire supplied with the harness kit meaningless meaning anyone else using this set themselves can skip routing that wire through the tail gate.

KorwinAU: Well done!! I take it that all the LED lamps are working as intended for our market and that your car is entirely compliant with the Australian Design Rules ("good-job" as the Yanks would say )!

PS:we haven't talked about the reverse lights - working OK?

Bassik: Hmm........ are you sure it was something that I wrote- can't remember it! Any further information would help as I'm not certain that I know where this post is- sorry.

You probably already know, but the big difference between the mk7 Golf and previous models was the inclusion of the multi-function steering wheel as a discrete module (in it's own right) into the CAN network. In previous models (like the mk6), the multifunction steering wheel was a LIN slave to the steering column module.

So this means (I think) that while the VC button on the Multifunction steering wheel does the same as the VC button on the escutcheon plate of the MIB unit, the transmission of the message (for the steering wheel button) happens over the CAN bus.

If you look at the steering wheel module @ address hex16 - there are no code, or adaptation channels specifically for the VC button. My suspicion is that the CAN bus simply tells the MIB unit that the VC button is pressed (or not pressed) in much the same way as the VC button on the escutcheon plate (but this button is "hard-wired" to the MIB, rather than being a CAN bus message).

This is a rather long winded way of suggesting that the MIB unit interprets both buttons in exactly the same way (regardless of how the button status is transmitted to the MIB). So - I suspect that the only way to make (both buttons) mute is to remove VC - which is not difficult to do but which I'm sure that you already know, will have the subsequent effect of bringing-up an error message saying that that VC is installed, but not activated! Nevertheless, if you can tolerate this annoying message every time that you press the button - it's an option that you might consider. Please ask if you want the instructions for how to disable VC

Hey Don... think it was this post VWVortex.com - Is it possible to make a mute button on Autobahn GTI?

But by per coincidence it may not be you...and just the same name?

Bassik: Hopefully I don't have a doppelganger using the same handle -but yes, I have to fess-up. That's certainly my post, which I wrote on 1 November 2013 - I've worn-out a few pairs of hush-puppies since then !!!

So, the Vortex post was about how to disable VC entirely (for both the steering wheel and MIB escutcheon plate buttons) and as noted in my EDIT - the tweak works, but as I said in my reply, the consequence is that you will get an error message telling you that the VC software is installed, but not activated.

If you are happy for this to happen, then implement the tweak, but I don't believe that it's possible to have mute -on just the steering wheel button and to have the MIB escutcheon plate button operate as normal.

So if I don't have VC installed tho... (don't have code and wont pay for it) then will doing the tweak no display the error.

Bassik: OK - so I suspect I've responding under a misapprehension. If you DON'T have VC, then the tweak will already be implemented!!
