Subwoofer Cable Extension for full sized spare in Mk7.5 Wagon

    Hi folks,
    First post.

(searched through the forums and couldnt find an answer)

    Recently purchased a 2020 Mk 7.5 Golf R wagon.

The car came with a few spare rims - it was my brother's car. He cracked a rim and bought a spare used set.

I've just replaced the tyres (Conti Sportconact 7s - seem great so far.)

I got the tyre shop to put a couple of the best of the old tyres on the spare rims - just the stock 19" Spielbergs - which means I can now use one for a full sized spare. There's room (if you dont remove the floor supports / lower the floor).

The subwoofer cable though is *just* a tad too short. Has anyone seen an off the shelf extension for this lead? Otherwise, maybe the part numbers / links for the two additional connectors (male / female) I'd need to make one up?

EDIT: Or, I can get off my arse and look at the connector, which is a 4D0-972-704-A

So looks like there's a lot of options for buy the connector with or without wires on Aliexpress. Happy days.

    Cheers!

Why not move the sub around a bit so it reaches If its like the Tiguan it connects at rear corner and would have plenty if sub connecter was rotated to nearer the front of the boot

    @timmo: Hi.

No offense intended, but I'm not sure how finicky you want this cable extension to be - but it's just a subwoofer, so not exactly a critical component on the car!!

The wiring between the external amplifier (called J525) and the subwoofer is like this:

Notice that the loom has 4 x wires - the subwoofer contains 2 x separate voice coils. If this was my car, I wouldn't bother sourcing a new 4 x pin connector (T4j in my wiring diagram).

A far easier and eminently acceptable alternative is to grab 4 x trailer cable wires, a soldering-iron and some heat-shrink tubing - and splice the additional length at a suitable position into the OEM loom

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

Yeah, when you put it that way.. Probably over thinking it. Off to Jaycar with me.

(Hillbilly, definitely not enough slake to reposition the sub. Here’s a quick pic with the space save spare in..

Two ways of fixing it Pull space saver out and see where cable goes It must go forwards to get to front of car so will be some slack there somewhere if end moved forwards. Other way is if you put a larger diameter Mag in there pull the cable up through the inside of the rim and there will be enough gap to get it through as that is a 17 in spacesaver. Thats what I was going to do but the 20" wouldnt go in the wheel well.

Gave the cable a fair tug and it seemed pretty locked in. Would have to lift the boot liner to check.

I did try feed the cable up the the full sized spare. Was still pretty tight, and also the tyre crushes the cable. Wouldn’t move obviously because the wheel is screwed down, but not ideal.

    cheers for the suggestions. Appreciated.

Mine had room because the 20 wouldnt sit right on the floor and stuck up 6omm too high above the floor Some bits of thick felt or ply would hold wheel far enough off floor to clear cable
