I read somewhere that the new Clio RS will only be available as a 5-door and having a dual-clutch transmission. Not sure how well RS enthusiasts will respond to that...

But yes the engine does sound very similar.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrofoglio or QV (i think that is how you spell it). Seems to be about the cost of a Golf mkVI GTI DSG but with a bit more kit and the italian soul. Although it is only available as a manual, so DSG lovers probably wouldn't look there.
It's already been compared (and lost) numerous times to the Mk6 in various magazines. If you must have an Alfa Romeo then sure, it's an option.

Purely on looks and presence it makes the Golf look bland (well, the Golf is bland)

Everyone that is a car enthusiast needs to own at least one Alfa at some stage

the std giulietta with QV pack comes with dual clutch transmission and is a pretty sweet car. not as quick and not as good a handler as the golf gti. but yeah a bit more soul than you'll find in a golf.

the thing with the golf gti it will always be a wolf in sheeps clothing. so in dna it kinda has to have a touch of bland !

ps watched this review of the audi a3 sportback, described as a more expensive golf..based on ofcourse the mk7 golf platform.

First drive review: Audi A3 Sportback

clearly not golf gti competition. be interesting how they price it. one worrying thing they say is the 6 speed dsg isnt as quick snappy as previously hmm..

I was behind one the other day on the M1 and it had plenty of poke, I would've had to shift down an extra gear (bear in mind I've got the 7spd) to out-perform it.

? I was talking about the Giulietta QV with a 6-spd manual and the 177kw 1.75l turbo engine which is why I thought it would be a good mk7 Golf GTI competitor. It's also only officially 4 seconds slower than a Focus RS and 5 seconds slower than a Cayman S around the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit. Not bad if you ask me.

But the depreciation is and will probably continue to be really REALLY bad compared to the Golfs. Also the GTI will probably be a lot easier to live with than a Giulietta too.

An Alfa Romeo is like a schizophrenic nymphomaniac supermodel. Lots of fun for short periods of time, great to look at, horrible to live with. Lol
