    Start/Stop Button replacement

    Hi all,

Over the last few weeks the start stop button in my MK7 Golf TDi has been increasingly unreliable. Sometimes I have to press it 1-20 times to either turn the car on or off!

I was just quoted $206.40 AUD retail for the button and just over $380 for the part and my local VW dealer to fit it.

Seems a little expensive to me, I'm happy to replace it myself but am struggling to find a replacement button other than aftermarket versions on eBay.

My questions are does the price seem reasonable to those with more experience and does anyone have experience with the cheaper (about $30) versions? or can someone point me in the right direction of an alternate supplier to VW Rockdale?

    Thanks in advance!

Should work out cheaper to buy it from here: Start/Stop Push Button - Aluminum | Mk7 Golf/GTi/R – UroTuning

or here: Genuine Volkswagen/Audi - 5G1959839A3Q7 - Push Button Start Switch - Deutsche Auto Parts

or here: Genuine Volkswagen Golf Engine Start / Stop Ignition Switch OEM VW 5G1959839A3Q7 | eBay

depending on who has the best postage price from USA > Australia, and just DIY the physical replacement.

Have a 2016 Golf Wagon and have had the stop/start button replaced TWICE. Under warranty one time. 2nd time was just after warranty. Cost was $292 fitted by McCarroll's Hornsby. Asked for Goodwill to defray cost from VW Australia. They came to the party, so was a happy chappy. There must be a issue with the buttons.

But hope it isn't a dud. It is a bit of a gamble buying a used part if that part is one that is regularly failing

I must say that the buttons aren't stupidly expensive (around $100 AUD going off the links I posted earlier) so I wouldn't bother buying a 2nd hand one in this instance.
