    Question "Start Engine Manually" message on MFD

    Hey guys,

    Just had a message appear in the MFD after stopping the car on a slight hill (not sure if that's relevant). The message appeared after stopping for a minute and then attempting to accelerate; the message said "Start Engine Manually". When I attempted to accelerate, the car started to roll back (as if the car was in neutral), so I put my foot back on the brake and restarted the car.

    Anyone had this happen before and should I be concerned?

    Your bluemotion kicked in and couldn't start itself back up (engine turns off) it wanted you to start the vehicle as either something went wrong or your parameters were off and it couldn't restart itself...

    Get it checked @ dealer.

    what do you mean by parameters were off? Also, I called the dealer and they said theres nothing to worry about, just a safety mechanism?

    kry_wolf: "The One"'s advice above sounds about right but if the problem is due to bluemotion (and I have no doubt that it is), it might be difficult for the dealer to find since it sounds like the car is behaving itself now.

    If the dealer says that the fault is intermittent and if it happens again, then it might be useful to take a picture (using your mobile) of the Stop/Start report on the Discover Media screen and to have the pic ready when you next go back to the dealer. It's real easy to access the screen- if you don't know how, then read here

    Edit: the "parameters" are probably the items on the screen shots in my post
    Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

    If you undo your seatbelt while the auto stop is activated, then you will get this message.

    Ahh that's it! I didn't put my seatbelt back on because I was just going up the driveway (we have long driveways here )

    Thanks for your help, been stressing about it (clearly for no good reason)

    seat belt would be correct, a couple of situations I have seen this message was;
    1. After getting out the car after blue motion has shut the engine off.
    2. Engaging the handbrake and sitting for about 15min blue motion has shut the engine off.

    I would say its a safety reasons why you need to turn the key and not a computer malfunction.

    Also if you hop out of the car to open a gate, say, and bluemotion has stopped the engine, you'll get lots of warnings about putting the car into P, which probably is the safe thing to do.

    The seatbelt seems to be the key to a lot of the technology and also confusion about the technology.
