Solution to water/dirt build-up on rear bumper?

Perhaps the standout design flaw of the MK7 GTI is the lack of runoff on the rear bumper, where water/dirt collect, even after short drives in wet conditions.

Reading a thread on the golfmk7.com forums, a picture of a "rear hatch blend" seemed like a logical solution to the filth build-up.

Don't really think much of the rest of the body kit (not bad though). Only really after the angled piece above the rear bumper...

I agree, the standard design is a bit wanting. Even after a wash I have to keep going back to dry off fresh water that comes down the hatch troughs. I'm not really sold on that solution either, only because it would be exceedingly expensive to fix a minor annoyance.

Looks nice, but I doubt it would make much difference to the accumulation of detritus — which is mainly due to the vacuum created by the hatch body shape.

That's why hatches have rear washers/wipers, while the 3-box shape doesn't need them.

Wouldn't the debris just roll off though, instead of just sitting on a flat surface as it does now?

I agree the debris will still get there, but this mod introduces a gutter like solution to allow it to fall off the rear of the vehicle....seems that way anyway.

I reckon that mod would still pick up plenty of crap. As mentioned it's because of the shape of the car, air eddies behind the hatch giving dirt plenty of opportunity to stick

I think it would most likely gather just as much dirt, just won't be able to see it.
