Slight jerk on normal deceleration to 0kmh.

Made my first semi-long distance trip to Wollongong this morning and fuel efficiency on my 2nd tank (after the initial tank from delivery) is getting better at 8.7L/100kms.

I did notice however on a few occasions now that the car does not downshift down to 0kmh too smoothly. What I mean by this is that on braking from say 60kmh down to a halt (normal braking), as the car slows down to about 20kmh > 5kmh it would have a slight push/jerk forward (D3 > D2 >D1). This is more noticeable for me on Comfort mode but doesn't happen every single time I come to a stop. Car is also completely warmed up (~100c Oil Temp) when it happens.

Anyone else noticed the same behaviour? This might be completely normal but I'm just cautious about everything I feel on the car right now.

Thanks in advanced, and here's a pic from the lighthouse.

That happens to me, I think its normal behaviour when the gearbox enters 1st gear. I find it is more noticeable in Sport than in "D".

Btw car looks awesome! Glad you're enjoying it.

This happens to me too, but more often in D than S and manual. Sometimes happens when going from D1 > D2 > D3

It's not a "problem" it's a "feature" of the DSG. There is a distinct clunk noise when dropping back into 1st gear when you're still in motion. I believe this is due to the synchros on 1st gear but there is likely some far more technical explanation than that.

Suffice to say that it sounds like "normal" DSG behaviour.

The car should not push/jerk forward, it's normal to feel a small thump and the car decelerate, your body may push/jerk forward.

This is just the transmission changing down gear, the clutch is engaged and causes the engine revs to increase and forward speed to decrease
It's exactly the same thing that happens in a manual, it's just that you didn't initiate and expect this action.
    You get used to it.

It happens less in S mode because the program more aggressively blips the throttle and rev matches to road speed,
ready for you to request instant acceleration (by planting the throttle)

This characteristic is much better in the Mk7 GTI and R than it was in the Mk6, but it's still there. As the car downshifts, it's handling clutch pressures, engine speed etc etc in addition to actually shifting gears, and sometimes you can feel some hesitation and mechanical action. The software that runs the Mk7 DQ250 gives a much smoother transition to 1st gear just prior to standstill (around 2-3km/h) by doing what appears to be slipping the clutch more (there's a perceptible reduction in load on the motor) as you approach a stop.

One possibility is that the DSG will get smoother with time, as the clutch adaptions improve. There are DSG reset/relearn techniques that can be performed as well (beyond the scope of this thread), should the issue become severe.

^ I figured there had been some software changes, while I had a bad example of the Mk6 DQ250 the Mk7 one so far is showing it is much happier finding 1st in slow speed situations.

Thanks for the explanation guys. My rookieness in DSGs / VWs are clearly showing coming from a Honda Civic

I'll keep tabs on this to see if becomes more severe over the next few hundred/thousand kms.
