Great questions. I've tried to find VIM solution and can't find much at all. Love to hear if anyone knows.

Russ: It's possible to enable VIM using a VAGCAN PRO cable (a VCDS cable won't do it). But the procedure is undertaken locally (i.e. the cable must be connected to the vehicle - it's not a "download"). Also, the VIM enabling software is an additional purchase (about $200 AUD) on-top-of the cable cost!! So not all folk that own VCP cables have VIM enabling capabilities!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

Thanks for info Don. Perhaps you could answer whether there is a possibility to connect to MIB2 CarPlay , via Bluetooth . LIKE NISSAN,HYUNDAI,FORD,HOLDEN.. etc. need I go on?

Frank: I don't have a MIBII in my car, but from what I understand, it all depends on which version unit you have.

The "lower end" Composition Colour MIBII just provides normal USB, Bluetooth and SD card media. But the Discover Media SATNAV & the Discover Pro allow you to tether a compatible phone to the MIBII unit and to use App-Connect (which supports Apps like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink).

But as I said, these are my understandings from stuff that I have read. Perhaps a colleague with a an actual MIBII can provide a more authoritative response
    Cheers

AFAIK no one has wireless carplay on the market? VW's Discover Pro is even used as the poster headunit on Apple's carplay page

Don't understand . This is from
Vwwatercooled sep 2015. Makes mention of cable and Bluetooth .

I will not be getting my car for a little while still
So it would be great if anyone who has CarPlay with an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus to test out the latest iOS release from Apple iOS 9 (released publicly yesterday).

In this release CarPlay now works wirelessly through the Bluetooth connection (as well as the Cable).

Anyone willing to give it a test with their impressions?
Things to lookout for which will be different from cable connection is (but not limited to):
    - Responsiveness (lag in the Menus/Maps/Siri)
    - Ease of use (what happens when you get in the car and turn it on. Once you've already paired - Everyday wireless use)
    - Any bugs/glitches?
    - Does the CarPlay app in the car launch automatically like it does when plug the phone in via the cable?
    - Does CarPlay need updating to support the new wireless features (VW CarPlay not the phone)?
    - Anything else you've noticed

This was a post I sent, before I had my MIBII Golf R and I was simply referring to Apple's iOS9 release notes, not VW release notes.

I am very well versed with Apple CarPlay and I can tell you that for Volkswagen & Volkswagen Group (Audi, etc.) there is no Wireless CarPlay. I believe that the cars have the hardware available to support Wireless Carplay, however coding would be required on Volkswagen's end. They are working on it though.

Furthermore, the other posters that state no one else uses Wireless CarPlay in a production vehicle yet is correct. Lots of manufacturers are working on it, but Apple might be holding them back still. Referring to one of your earlier comments, you must be talking about just normal Bluetooth music because "NISSAN,HYUNDAI,FORD,HOLDEN"certainly do NOT use Wireless CarPlay. MIBII of course will do Bluetooth streaming too.

"Wireless CarPlay has been introduced in iOS 9, but there is currently no hardware on the market that supports the technology. Volkswagen was apparently ready to showcase its wireless CarPlay integration at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show, but it was forbidden by Apple from pushing through with its demonstration."
Source: You can now find out which cars have CarPlay with Apple's official list

“We wanted to demonstrate wireless CarPlay and the owner of CarPlay technology didn’t allow us to,” Volkmar Tannerberger, head of electrical and electronic development at Volkswagen, told Car and Driver."
