Well I think its more of a piece of mind for me, plus with my luck the dealer would say something about that and how it screwed up the SD card slot. It's an easy 30 second fix just to play it safe. I'm quite certain I have a bad SD card reader in my car. Guess we will see tomorrow.

Got the car back from the dealer, no faults found in the infotainment module, but after still not getting the card spot to work they said they will replace the module under warranty for free. They ordered the part and I'm supposed to go back on Saturday to get it installed. I did uninstall the driving school mode just to see, but made no difference. I kept it off simply because the only thing different in that mode compared to start up is the turn signal indication. I'll probably just leave it disabled. Anyway, I'll report back when it's installed and fixed. Thanks for the help.

Ben: You are messin' with my brain big-time!! You are going to have to explain this to me in single syllable words- please. "no faults found in the infotainment module, but..........still not getting the card slot to work"? Then the dealer makes a warranty claim to VW Australia?

Sorry, but I just get mad with dealers that say one thing to their customer but then contradict the statement to VW Australia!

Let me clarify...no faults because there were communication issues with the infotainment module. No stored codes because it's not communicating properly...will know more tomorrow when they swap it out. If the swap fixes I'll be happy and they guessed correctly.

Well this sucks... They replaced the infotainment module... The SD card port works now, but no bluetooth, phone stuff, MDI function, or voice control. The dealer couldn't figure out why and said Ill just have to come back when they can call their help line and try to find out! I'm trying very hard to remain patient, but F***! Any help or something I could do with VCDS? The old module number was 5G0 035 844 and has been superseded by 5G0 035 878 A. They installed the later one. Help please!

Ben: hmm........... it's not good when a dealer says the he "couldn't figure out why", but it's an all-too-familiar response these days as cars are becoming more sophisticated! Sounds like you have solved a small problem, only to have generated a much bigger problem -sorry this probably doesn't help!

I've looked at a few admaps for address 5F on NAR model vehicles and whilst there are some similarities with our ROW counterparts, there are major differences. The variances are allied in the main to your different radio systems (like HD radio) and the other functions that hang-off the infotainment system (which VW calls J794) - like CARNET (NAR models seem to have a lot of surveillance facilities inbuilt into the car-not sure why). So, I don't think anyone down here will be of much help - glad to be proven wrong

What I can say is that voice control is not native to the discover media/pro unit down here. It needs to be added as a separate piece of code by the dealer. So I'm not surprised that it doesn't work in your new unit, if the dealer simply exchanged the units.

But good luck with your efforts
    Cheers
    Doin

Thanks for the help...Interesting enough the ling coding is identical from the old to new module which makes me think that isnt the way it is supposed to be. I have been trying to find another car with the new module 878-A and compare the coding to what mine is. The only 2015 5F code I can find is from a GTi

Ben, As I said, I don't think anyone here will be able to help. Here's the coding strings from my data-base for address 5F together with the hardware/software IDs. But alas none are 878-A (ignore the blue writing at the right - the notes are my "uneducated guess" at what the Bytes do)

Well everything is finally fixed. VWoA talked the techs through "setting the parameters" for the new part and now everything works perfect. I pulled a new channel map after they did all the work and everything to include the coding is exactly the same. I haven't remapped my BCM or gateway module to see if that changed at all, but I do have the map file available for the new module ending in 878A if anyone wants it. Thanks Don for the help and let me know if I can provide you any data!
