It might be tidy but picture, to be polite will be less than quality.

A Blackvue 650 or a Mini 086 would be far better.
No need to be polite I don't own one, nor am I affiliated with them. Just saw them the other day and thought the idea is pretty cool given how neat the finished product is.

It's a shame the image quality may not be up to standards. Hopefully newer versions of the product will incorporate better imaging sensors

It's a nice idea, though I'd rather have the system independent of the car's systems, given it could have been a major accident recorded that's enough to wipe out some of the systems.

Plus I'd be doubtful as to how much of a market there would be for it, at least until insurers start offering discounts to those with dashcams fitted.

Well, hopefully VW will design one and VWA will allow it to comes to Australia. There is already a front mounted camera OS for the lane monitoring, how hard is it to modify that to record as well? Most new VW golf now has a rear camera, hmm, maybe modify that to be an internal camera pointing it back when driving forward and pointing down when reversing. Hell, why not give it a wide angle lens to see both behind and down?
