I don't usually worry too much about fogs during the day as very few are bright enough to dazzle me because my pupils are normally reasonably constricted from sunlight.
Badly adjusted fogs at night when the weather is clear is a totally different ball game - I hate them with a passion ! Dazzle city just because the driver either thinks they "look cool" or because they believe the extra light helps them see better (they don't).
And while I'm having a rant, what's with all the 4WDs and SUVs with really dazzling lights causing issues for other drivers. Are they all just badly adjusted or are the owners installing LED globes that don't work properly with the optics ?

The lights in the bottom of my Polo bar put out less light when used as DRLs compared to when the fog switch is on.

I run the LED fogs in my GTI as DRLs and coming home lights. They aren't anywhere near as bright as the halogens.
I've driven past police in NSW and QLD many times and not a single one has mentioned anything. Where as I was asked to turn the fogs off in my Falcon at a RBT once. Even though I was driving through fog between Armidale and Coffs Harbour...

Paul: well done for getting the DRL function to work on your fog-lights!
Disabling the DRL function from the "light-cluster" shouldn't be difficult - but it's a tad problematic for me to be precise because I'm less familiar with the UK MK7 GTI pp (which I believe is 3 x door car). But it shouldn't be too hard if you are prepared to experiment.
I'm guessing from reading THIS that the "light cluster" is what is euphemistically called twin "angel-eyes". If I'm correct, there are 2 x pairs of Leuchte-sets (i.e. 4 x Leuchte-sets in total) that control DRLs in your BCM (the module @ address hex09). These Leuchte-sets are:
- Leuchte4TFL LB4
- Leuchte5 TFL RB32
and
- Leuchte2SL VLB10
- Leuchte3SL VRB21
Again, if I have guessed correctly, on each of the 4 x Leuchte-sets above the Lichtfunktion A channel should be factory programmed to the setting Daytime running lights. Please confirm that this is so on your car.
If the Lichtfunktion A channel has the DRL command, then try changing Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimmwert AB 2 and Leuchte3SL VRB21-Dimmwert AB 3 from 100 to 0. If these changes are not successful in disabling the DRL function from the angel-eyes, revert these changes back and change Leuchte4TFL LB4-Dimmwert AB 4 and Leuchte5 TFL RB32-Dimmwert AB 5 from 100 to 0.

Hi Don just to give you some feedback I have coded the other codes to the car to remove the original dlrs in light clusters and this worked! for short while then 2 fault codes appeared. r/h and l/h fogs error. but the fog lights were on as dlrs and no other lights were? do I need to maybe set lightings values somewhere else? any help would be great thanks.paul![]()

Hmm......... it's getting a bit like a guessing game now!!![]()
I really need more information about the specific settings in your car. The best information would be an adaptation channel map (in CSV format) from your BCM (the module @ address hex09). Do you know how to create an Admap? If so, paste-up a copy here
If not, the 2nd best option is to paste-up a copy of the Leuchte-set for one of the fog lights (I need all 19 x adaptation channels and their settings- please)
