    Hi

I use these Mont Blanc Barracuda Twin Pack Roof Mounted Carrier | Chain Reaction Cycles on my Tiguan which VW sells as OEM but a lot cheaper to buy online. These are the most popular around OZ are Thule and Torpedo7 | Outdoor Gear Store | Extreme Sports Australia Shop Online has some good prices recently.

I got the VW roof racks with mine and they are fine. They are lockable and come with a nifty little torque wrench to make sure they are locked on properly.

I've got the racks and carriers on my mk7. The racks are ok. The bike carriers are a bit overly complicated and create a fair bit of wind noise. The Thule carriers are better IMO.

    Roof Rack on Mk7 R

    Hi all,

    Longtime reader, first time poster.

Picked up my awesome white Golf R in November of this year. Absolutely in love and have not regretted the purchase at all, had it Opti-Coated and it absolutely shines!

I have few questions in regards to roof racks - specifically for transporting a surfboard (around 8-9 feet in length) - please note that I am a dummy when it comes to roof racks - I am starting to do some research but have no idea about installation etc.

    1. Do I need any special installation points? Will these leave any ugly marks or other gear on my car?
    2. What's the approximate cost for a decent roof rack?
    3. Can this be easily installed and removed? Eg. Can I take my surfboard to the coast for the weekend, then come home and easily remove the roof racks? Will anyone even know I had roof racks on?

Thanks for your help all. I live in Canberra, so if anyone has any recommendations happy to take these on board also!

    Hi Adam

I too have a white Mk7 R and have invested in a Whisperbar roof rack (powdercoated black). I'm a keen cyclist so have a couple of black Thule bike carriers (and a Thule luggage pod which tends to go on the Alltrack). The whole set-up looks smart and is pretty quiet. Easy to take on and off, the store who sold/installed it point out the installation points which are straightforward. good rubber pads so no marks etc. Cost about $350 ish. If I can work out how to post a photo I will do so shortly.
