Hello, question for those with blind spot monitoring and rear traffic alert.
Reading VW's marketing material, it says rear traffic alert is meant to have audio and visual alerts, and even brake for you in a pinch.
I've only ever had audio alerts from the side speakers where the cars approaching, never seen any visual alerts. Has anyone seen a visual alert?
And does our system actually brake for us? Or did we get the povo spec version that doesn't do that?

Agenttumb: Hello again. I don't have bells-and-whistle assist items on my mk7, but I think that I can recall in my readings somewhere in the distant past that VW's blind-spot monitoring equipment contained an embedded hysteresis function.
If my failing memory is correct, I believe that it needed a threshold speed to activate (60 kms/hr comes to mind) and it turned-off (once enabled) at a lower speed. The lower speed I think was something like 50 kms/hr. The hysteresis was designed into the system to stop the device from "hunting" when the driver traveled near the normal speed limit (60kms/hr).
The threshold speed is needed, I suspect because the two rear radar detectors aren't accurate at lower speeds.
So, if this is true, you wouldn't expect the mirror indicators to illuminate when reversing - unless of course you are particularly skilled at traveling backwards at 60 kms/hr !!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
Hey Don, thanks for your input.
The Blind Spot and Rear Traffic alert are two separate functions that share the same components.
Blind Spot works when driving normally. Activates at around 20km/h and picks up objects in the blind spot. There are no audio warning for this, just the visual indicators in the side mirrors. The system also deactivates when you reduce speed down to around 15km/h.
Rear traffic uses the same sensors, but works when you reverse out of a parking spot. The system is active at 0km/h from the moment reverse is engaged, and sounds a audio warning from speakers on the side of approaching vehicle. This is the function I'm asking about. Apparently there is meant to be a visual warning either in the MFD or on the Infotainment screen however, I do not appear to have this come up at all. And I'm also not sure my system actually brakes the car if I fail to stop when reversing.
Doing a bit more digging, it appears the visual indication doesn't appear on MIB1, but should be available on MIB2. Still don't know if the system brakes the car if you don't intervene.

As far as I am aware, the only visual warning is displayed on the infotainment screen as part of the 'ParkPilot' system. My one looks similar to the picture below. The two circled segments show as either orange or red (depending on how close) when a car is approaching your blind spot while you are reversing. This is in addition to the audible warnings. I'm not certain as to whether the system will apply the brakes if you were to continue reversing while a car was approaching. I don't exactly want to test it! Haha

No problem at all! On another topic, do you find that your infotainment screen every now and then displays a message along the lines of "please follow local traffic regulations..."?

Ah used to. If you have VCDS, you can disable that
