    Rear Badge Doesn't Flip Up

So my rear camera has been intermittently not working for a while.
I've noticed it's when the weather is cold. The camera itself seems fine but the badge doesn't flip up and when I go check the badge is also locked. After driving it or after putting it in and out of reverse a few times it'll fix.

    No codes when scanning it.

Putting common WD 40 on anything like that only makes it worse as it leaves a residue which attracts dust and crap. The correct stuff is Silicone spray which doesnt leave a residue and is a lubricant , not a penetrative like WD 40

Where abouts should I be using it on?
I'm not really sure if it's like jammed where it needs lubrication however as when I try open it with my hand it's locked. Like I can pull the badge up but it's not unlocked. When I put it in reverse I don't think the mechanism is moving at all as I don't hear it attempt to make the whirring noise of the badge flipping.

It will have a point that it swivels on otherwise check the electrical connections if no noise of it working

    @clinton: Hi.

Certainly pursue the "sticky lock" suggestion - but as previously advised, don't use WD40.

IMO, WD40 is horrible stuff - it should be banned, or at the very least every can should contain a warning sticker about its use (not many know, but "WD" stands for "Water Displacement" - it should never be used as a cleaning agent - again IMO)

But I digress - anyhow, I'm not sure which version RVC is on your car. However, because your picture is missing the "bendy lines", I'm guessing that it's the low-line camera. Based on this guess, here's how your RVC is wired:

    On my picture:
    • R189 =RVC
    • J794 = MIB (the unit inside the glove box)
    • J519 = the module @ address hex09 on the CAN network which VCDS calls "BCM" and OBDeleven calls "central electrics module"
    • The 2 x connections between R189 and J794 are a coaxial video cable that holds the vision signal from the camera
    • T4bt = the 4 x pin connector on the RVC (separate to the connector on the RVC for the coax video-cable)

So, if your "sticky lock" investigation doesn't help - maybe do these steps:
    1. first look at the fuse. The "C" fuse-block is behind the glove-box door -like this:
    2. Then grab a multi-meter and check that battery volts appear at pin#1 on the actual RVC connector. Note: this power supply is what's known as a "Terminal 15" (T15) voltage which means that the ignition must be switched-ON
    3. Then check the integrity of the earth connection on the RVC (i.e. pin #2 )
    4. Finally, check volts on pin #4 (at the RVC connector). This is the actual "Gate-open" signal (in truth, the gate-open signal is the rising edge of the voltage waveform)- the "Gate-close" signal comes via another source.
The blue/black wire in my diagram is also the wire that provides power to the right-side reversing-light.
For this check (again, with ignition-ON):
      • First confirm that the "resting" volts on pin #4 =0V
      • Hand-brake ON and
      • Put the car into reverse gear
      • With this configuration, you should have FULL battery volts on pin #4, and the right-side reverse-light should illuminate (actually, both reverse lights should turn-ON)

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

So just flip the badge up and then spray silicon on the sides of the badge where it flips? Is there a point of where it unlocks that should be checked?
