Protecting the skirting on your Golf

The stock ride height on a Golf (GTi or R) isn't exactly slammed and yet I'm somehow perilously close to scraping every time I enter or leave my stupid apartment carpark ramps. Over time the suspension is going to sink slightly, especially if try to take passengers or other loads whenever I'm entering/exiting the carpark.

It's one of those pesky apartment building ones with tall curbs on either side everywhere so approaching at an angle is impossible.

What's a good way to protect that lovely painted underside skirting from getting scraped back to the plastic? My old car used to just be unpainted down there so was nice and easy.

At a high level, I'm thinking some sort of adhesive rubber cut to the shape of the underside skirt/lip and pasting it over it so its covered, not visible and not thick enough to make the approach height any lower. That however is quite involved so are there any better ideas out there?

I wish I had thought about this before trying to drive mine off a barge. Even taking it at an angle didn't save me. Hopefully I can get some touch up paint when the car goes in for its one year service (the scratch isn't that big and is only seen if you crouch).

Same reason I skipped any lowering this time around - while I didn't have any issues in Adelaide, our places in Cairns and Melbourne have both featured some awkward driveways and so glad I didn't go that route.

This product featured a while back in the Mk6 forums and I think a few guys bought it with some success: https://www.ezlip.com . Whether it's that or a similar product the concept is the same and can be used on most car skirting.. although may need to be mounted differently on the sides otherwise the look might not be right.

You want something that has a low coefficient of friction as something like rubber is going to grip and tear off.

You can get HDPE or UHMWPE adhesive tape as this will allow the skirting to slip on the obstruction.

I suppose, this is where an adjustable ride height would be an advantage.

..except the average R guy on coilovers will be running at heights varying from mildly to highly illegal.

I think the HDPE/UHMWPE is the way to go, now to find it...
