Last month: >$4000 for water pump, thermostat and cracked radiator on my Golf GTI Mk7, purchased brand new in 2014.
First pump failure at just over 7,000km (replaced under warranty).
The second one last month at just over 48,000km. Costly exercise.
Asked VGA to assist me financially as the pump issue is well known. Flatly rejected citing wear and tear.
I am seriously pissssssssssssssssed of. Will write anther less pleasant email to tell them that I will escalate further to ACCC, and I am keen to join that class action.
My 2017 Golf Alltrack with 90,000km is slowly leaking coolant around the water pump.
Called the VW/Audi dealer/service centre in Hobart. Head of service admitted that water pumps aren't a high failure item on most cars but that he'd seen quite a few. Wouldn't admit it was a known issue with VWs of that era, said he hadn't heard of the settlement in the USA.
I told him to visit https://www.waterpumpsettlement.com/
He ball parked $1500-$2000 to replace the water pump (including timing belt) and $600 to do a diagnostic analysis which was a requirement before any warranty claim could be made. I told him that looking at the water pump from underneath was all they would need to tell them the water pump was leaking and that shouldn't cost $600.
He told me that I should pursue it directly with VW, I just VW customer service on 1800 607 822 and submitted a warranty claim, they said they need to co-ordinate with the dealer and will get back to me in the next few days.
In the meantime I'm registering my expression of interest in a class action with Volkswagen & Audi EOI | Adero Law
A bit of update on my situation:
After VGA rejected my claim, they sent me a survey link to tell them of how they addressed my issue.
Needles to say, I gave them the MOST negative review in the world and asked to be contacted again. Surprisingly, they did, just before Christmas.
After talking to them, they promised to review my claim again. They did, and offered me 50% of the installed parts (no labor) = $A335.
So, I questioned their math and last week they provided their last offer to compensate me for 50% of the thermostat only (excluding the water pump and radiator).
$A556 out of $A4000.
I am done with VW and will discourage anyone I know to buy one.
Update from lawyers saying they had a good sign ups so they are taking it further and starting their investigations. If you haven't already signed up have a go. If you did you should have received an email from them.
Does anyone have any recommendations for an independent in south west Sydney to do a timing belt and water pump? Vw quoted $2300. have signed up to Lawyers mentions, thanks Lenny.
