i'm probably up for talking to someone. during my recent 60,000km service i was told my coolant housing passed the pressure test but does have early signs of leaking so they will 'monitor' it. but i gather this is the start of potential big problems, i've been very weary of this waterpump/thermostat housing crap happening to me, would be amazing if we could get something through to VW for us, as I think they successfully did in the USA?

is it worth upgrading the part to something made with better material? i've read about getting an all-metal aftermarket pump as the VW one is just made of plastic? if your part fails are you going to replace it with OEM or try to upgrade to something stronger?

There is a pump that comes with a 4 year warranty which my mechanic got for me. It's Borsehung I believe.

IIRC it is the complex plastic housing that leaks, not the Waterpump or thermostat themselves. So far I haven't read any reports of a more robust/reliable housing (unfortunately), but some different waterpumps are supposed to be better (not sure which ones, sorry).

Count us in, I’ve already got thermostat replaced by VW over $1500 for part, then at 120k service oh your water pumps leaking. Took it to Northside Euros, they will replace at next service using non genuine pump that lasts. Said leak is tiny, just keep an eye on it. It’s a 2018 Golf Alltrack. Will never go to VW dealer again, even brakes cost $1000, wtfudge.

$2,300? Sheesh, that's pricey! I had mine done a few months ago for $1,500 by Pacortech here in Sydney, including replacing the coolant overflow bottle.
