Basically happened twice within a week now. The message "Park pilot is not available". I can hear the camera cap move but no back up camera displays on screens. Each time I have to switch the car off or hold the mib power button for 10 seconds or so to restart it. This is on a 3 months old MK7 R.

My question is, has there been any concrete solutions around this? Or do I just have to accept this is one of the joys of having a crappy mib 2 system? Never really experienced this annoyance with other cars with a back up camera. Thanks all!
austang: I don't doubt Mattlock's advice, but I wonder if there isn't a more obvious answer!

Here's a section of the wiring diagram for the Rear View Camera (RVC) on a mk7 - VW calls the RVC "R189":

Looks complicated - I agree, but the only part of the diagram that is important for this response is the bit that I have circled in red. J519 is the Body Control Module (BCM) which is the central module that co-ordinates virtually all of the convenience functions in the car.

Notice that the black/blue (Schwarz/blau in German) wire is connected to PIN #64, Socket A on the BCM ("/64" means PIN #64 and "a" in "T73a" means " Socket A" - "T73" means that the connector has a total of 73 pins). Also notice that the other end of the black/blue wire is (eventually) connected to the RVC.

So - I'm not sure if you are familiar with the way that lamps are controlled in a mk7, but they use a system called "Leuchte channels". The Leuchte channel for the right-side reversing light is Leuchte29RFL RA64. The A64 in the descriptor means that the RHS reversing light is connected to PIN #64, Socket A on the BCM - yes, the same wire as in my diagram above.

This means that the RVC is energised whenever the right side reversing light is illuminated. The actual reversing switch (which is physically embedded in the gear-box) is connected directly to the BCM (PIN #11, Socket B) and the BCM senses the condition of this switch to turn-on the reversing lights

So - the next time that you get the "Park pilot is not available" message and the RVC doesn't switch-on, have a look at the state of the right-side reversing light. If it isn't illuminated, then this could be the problem (just a suggestion)

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
