austang: I don't doubt Mattlock advice, but I wonder if there isn't a more obvious answer!
Here's a section of the wiring diagram for the Rear View Camera (RVC) on a mk7 (VW calls the RVC
R189):
Looks complicated - I agree, but the only part of the diagram that is important for this response is the bit that I have circled in red. J519 is the Body Control Module (BCM) - notice that the black/blue wire is connected to PIN #64, Socket A on the BCM (the "a" in "T73a" means the Socket A) and also notice that the other end of this wire is (eventually) connected to the RVC.
So - I'm not sure if you are familiar with the way that lamps are controlled in a mk7, but they use a system called "Leuchte channels". The Leuchte channel for the right-side reversing light is
Leuchte29RFL RA64. The
A64 in the descriptor means that the RHS reversing light is connected to PIN #64, Socket A on the BCM - yes the same wire as in my diagram above. This means that thr RVC is energised whenever the right side reversing light is illuminated.
So - the next time that you get the "Park pilot is not available" message and the RVC doesn't switch-on, have a look at the state of the right-side reversing light. If it isn't illuminated, then this could be the problem (just a suggestion)
