Thanks guys. My dealer told me he's never used it before so is not sure how to do it, but he'll find someone in the service dpt who can help me.

The system may not have initialised correctly on startup. If you stop the car and leave it for a half hour, the system should have shut down and may come back fine on a subsequent start. Give that a go.

Kiaorana: interesting handle -I assume you are from the Cook Islands and you are saying "Hello", or perhaps you are using the Maori word for the same term. In any event, Hi in return!

Regarding your Park Pilot problem - the reason for the message could be that you have not set-up Park Pilot in the car's MENU correctly.
Unless you tick the box that says something like "activate automatically", Park Pilot can only be engaged by pressing the "P" button on the centre console.

Just a hunch, but it might be prudent to check the following:
    1. Press the CAR button on the escutcheon plate on the RHS of the infotainment system
    2. Press Set-up on the lower RHS of the screen (looks like two gear wheels)
    3. Select parking and manoeuvring
    4. Make sure the box next to activate automatically is ticked under Park Pilot section
    5. Exit all menus

    Cheers
    Don

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

My Mk 7 is in the shop for exactly the same thing. Reverse bay parking, If it sees a spot it chooses one with a car already there..
    Reverse parallel is fine.
So it probably is the car.

Hi Baz, thanks for letting me know, I'll take it to the shop. Let me know if that fixed your issue.

    Hi Don,

Sorry I didn't see your reply earlier! You're right KiaOrana comes from the Cook Islands where I grew up!

Park Pilot is configured properly, it's definitely a car issue. It always tries to park in the bay with a car, instead of the free bay.

    Have a good one!

    Hi Kiaorano,

I had a play with the auto park system today and it also tried to reverse me into spots where cars were already parked.
    Not ideal!

Interestingly, I took my car to VW where they cleared a fault, and since then, the park assist works perfectly.

I had another go last night and it worked fine on that occasion. If it does it again ill notify the dealer next time I'm there.
