Wider, more aggressive wheel fitment on MK7 Golf hatch

    Probably because I'm...

This is probably a spot to look: The Official Mk7 Wheel Thread

As Dylan said everyone has a different opinion on what's ok and what's not.

Realistically if you're going beyond 8.5 wide ET45 then you're going to be needing to do some work to avoid issues. Queensland does seem to allow a bit more flexibility with 1.3 times max width for the model, so in theory 10 inches might be ok but good luck making that work.

Plenty of real life fitment examples in the thread though.

    Thanks for your reply.

Yep yep all over that thread now. Already on page #6 The Official Mk7 Wheel Thread

And yes, from what one learnt so far, 8.5 +45 is looking good.

Are both front and rear wheel arches/wells about the same dimensions? If choose a square setup, would the 'poke' be exactly the same front and rear or can the rear fit a slightly bigger wheel?

Also what's QLD's formula to work out what wheel specs are legal/illegal?

I'd like to see more of the v702s. I also really like the idea of them. I have a silver MK7 and Im thinking of getting the gunmetal 702s, I think that would look awesome but I want to see more pics first.

I've only recently moved to Qld so not really familiar with the rules, just have seen a width rule of 1.3 times the widest wheel for the model which is pretty generous. There's more info on the transport website.

You can go a bit wider on the rear via staggered or offset differences, my conservative x 8 ET48 does fill the front fairly well but there is definitely more room in the back.

I'd still suggest a limit of x 8.5 ET45 if you are lowering and don't want to be mucking around with extra work to keep the car practical (which seems like what you want from your original post).

Welcome to the thread BleezyD.. I suspect as the 702s become more common we will see more Mk7s with them. My original thoughts concur with Adam's that the straight lines are a match to the Mk7. Given the popularity of VMR in the USA I suspect that's where our pictures will come from (per this car).

I'd like to see more before making a final call, my thoughts on the sedan just comes from the fact that every VMR photo spread I've seen on them has been a BMW or Audi and I might be swayed by that.

If I find a buyer for my OZs I may yet give these a crack and be the guinea pig, I do like change.

Welcome ari77, really looking forward to seeing some pics of your vehicle - aim of the thread was to start with pics off the web and move on to everyone's personal cars and experiences. If you go to advanced when replying/posting there is a paperclip icon on the first row which will open up a window to upload and insert pics. Alternately you can just host elsewhere and post using the IMG function but obviously of the pics move then the thread loses the info.
