Interested to find out what you got quoted on the Motorsports.

Not sure how "central" you are in Vic but may be worth a trip to Adelaide...

As Dutch said check out the parts for sale area as there's new Motorsports advertised there - $385 a rim for 18's + shipping. Or $2,450 fitted with Continental MC5 225/40 R18 tyres.

Here's the thread: New - OEM Motorsport 18" Wheel & Continental tyre Package

I've got a question regarding 18in v 19in wheels. Does anyone find the 19in wheels ride rough, have more road noise or any other problems?
Reason I ask is becuse I'm looking at buying either a Golf GTI or GTI PP, however I'm worried that the 19in wheels and lower profile tires on the PP will provide a rough ride. I'm going to use this car everyday to commute to work (50km) so needs to be comfortable.
    Any help appreciated

19" wheels will have less sidewall so it will be a harsher ride.
Best to stick with 18's if you want comfort.

I guess if you have to buy the PP GTI you could always swap with someone who bought a car with the 18" wheels fitted.

    Thanks for the link Tigger.

Ride quality on the PP is supposed to be excellent- easy to google (most reviewers appear surprised given it rides on 19's). Wheels gave the PP 9/10 in part due to ride quality > R also on 19's (albeit R lwr profile). I must say I find the ride quality of my R excellent far superior to my Mk6 GTI on 18's.

As team_v said the 19s will definitely give a harsher ride, but having said that the ride comfort on the Mk7 is improved over the Mk6, so as per andrew7 his R is riding better regardless.

You also have to learn to like the Santiago wheels on the PP unless you intend to go aftermarket regardless, or drop back to 18s such as MIRSAD who put his VW Motorsport wheels on.

At the end of the day I'd be testing them back to back and making up your own mind. Everyone will have a different opinion. If you want xenons for example, and don't mind the 19s then the PP is good value - and if you can't find a current base GTI with xenons then you won't have a choice as PP will be the only way to get them from now on. Conversely if you intend to track the car then the electronic diff upgrade will be worth the coin.

For me I didn't want 19s, didn't need xenons - as awful as the standard lights are - and am not tracking the car so didn't need the diff upgrade = save my coin and buy standard. Admittedly I've started spending the saving on the wheel change, and possibly on other mods I am not going to do.

I decided if I'll give it a month or two on 19's and if I really don't like them I would either offer them up for swap or buy some aftermarket wheels and put them on the shelf for resale.

Good idea.. you're in the right thread for either option.

FWIW I've been trawling an H&R Springs thread and there's a number of GTIs with Santiagos and a nice drop and that makes a world of difference. I won't admit to liking them - I'd never hear the end of it - but it does look a lot better. I'll post up some examples later.

Yeah I don't mind them - I'd go the VW option if I was looking at 18s but if you want to roll the 17s still then they're a decent option and a quality wheel for the price. What color is the TDI? Agree on painting the calipers though, the red inside the black looks good. A good project to post up.
