Thread: The Official Mk7 Wheel Thread

Here is my GTI with the VWR 19" x 8.5mm with 235 tyres. It's also on the VWR springs. We removed the top fender screw and there is no rubbing anywhere, even 4 up.

Keep in mind they are 19 inch, so also depends whether you want to go up a size or stick to the 18s.

With grey on grey, I think it depends on whether there is contrast between the two - CSG is definitely darker than the graphite OZ color, so it should work. Here is a couple of links to the same Mk6 car in the USA running what I had:

I'd also consider just the silver finish on the LMs as well, that provides a really good contrast with CSG, although will be a bitch to clean for brake dust! I'd definitely look at some kind of coating to speed that process up.. and note I said LM here, I prefer the defined centre on these over the more concave finish on the GTs.
Haha ooops, I'm cheap so I guess the Oettingers are out of the question

Might be because the brakes are still new, but I'm not seeing much brake dust. Not like the Polo I had which turned your wheels from silver to a lovely brake-dust coloured gunmetal in a few days...

...Also not sure about plain silver, a little plain for my tastes.

Looks good - per the Mk6 just the right drop. Liking the looks of those brakes peeking out too. Also answered my query elsewhere on the fender screw and whether its still there or not!

Assume you've added a red lip protector on to the rims?

Keep us posted on those Oettinger rims too.

I quite like silver wheels on CSG for contrast - but unsure on the LMs, I agree the graphite might look a little different and I reckon should work well. It's all straight lines really which is what the Mk7 is about.

I was doctoring numerous wheels on to a CSG profile when I was looking around, I'll stick some LMs on for giggles when I get a chance.

Yep - our signwriter like a red reflective wheel sticker. Wish it prevented gutter scrapes but alas not!

I have much love for these wheels although a new set are probably in the $3,500 range. I've quoted the most friendly fitment in the specs - which could be borderline at 14mm poke per the discussion earlier in this thread (please read); however these pics clearly show a lot more poke so I am guessing they've fitted the ET40 wheels (they also do an ET32 in 5x112 PCD). These wheels are also running the BBS stainless lip protector which perhaps adds to the poke look.

These bad boys are fitted to the AMG C63 507 Edition and their straight line Y spoke would quite likely suit the Mk7 styling. As a bonus they'd be a decent fitment too - the 19 x 8s are only a 10mm poke off stock. Finding a (genuine) set would not be easy though..

Guy, comments been made in the GTI thread that DCC and spring changes could cause issues; how do the VWRs stack up in this regard?

I supposed for a slightly more subtle look for the street there's the Fox X-Tuning, I've always liked the look of them in pics but not sure how they'd look in real life... 18x8.0 Fox X-tuning

I'm not a fan of wheels with multiple stud patterns on the same centre; and would generally steer clear of variance in lip color - although I'll give a pass to the BBS CH in black and other similar wheels.

There are a few options for red lipped wheels as below; I reckon a simpler five spoke in black with red lip could work - most likely on a black car (albeit a silver one pictured) - given the other red highlights on the GTI.

Well you learn something new each day. I'd never seen these wheels before - from what I gather they came on US ED35 Mk6s at least as a 19 inch option, and also made an appearance on Canadian Mk6 Rs. These do remind me a little of the Oettingers that Guy posted previously, and as OEM wheels shouldn't be hard to source from overseas. However given these wheels are actually going to poke 2mm less than Austins they're going to 'disappear' once you drop the height - which explains the wheel spacers being used here, but keep in mind this is not legal in Australia.
