On other issues, blatant and shameless plug for my OZs again, why buy crappy reps when you can look like this with some of the best wheels on market:

Unfortunately, if you wish to remain within the manufacturers recommendations on an 18x7.5" rim you can't fit 235/40 or 245/35 as they are a minimum 8" rim.

Personally, I think 235/40r18 would be fine but I'm OK with risks like that.
Hey brad thanks for the info - yep the load rating on the fuel flap is 92. I will try and get the standard size then. Just in case something happens and insurance looks at the tyres and notice that they are not within the OEM spec. I doubt this would happen but you never know. Cheers

I would but I suspect I'd need to be on bookface to post?

It's true, these were excessively awesome. But Dutch had to sell it - the thing was stealing all the admiring glances from my OEM+ setup, and we can't have that, oh no.

This totally reminds me of a series of photos of abandoned pre-war cars in The Netherlands, left by ex-servicemen when they returned home after serving. Yup, these poor Golfs have had their suspension stolen and have now been left to rot...

I realise I may have a unique perspective on these things.

LOL. I did spend many months determining that wheel set up - done at a time when every cat was going black I bucked a trend and I think it is fair to say the strong move away from black wheels pretty much flowed from that.

    Still miss my Mk6..

You know me, I'm always happy to talk 20th century European history..

..and yes it is a unique perspective. I was actually going to post it up as 'Adam's Dream Backyard'.
