Just placed an order for a base model 90TSI DSG with April '13 build, metallic paint and mats for $25.5k.

Now to hunt down some decent alloys to replace the steel rims. Looking at the VW 15" Aspen rims but at $800 I'm a little hesitant. Any suggestions?

The Sunset Red 103tsi arrived last Friday. It's a Feb 2013 build. What a sweet, good looking ride. Still a bit of a shift from the G6E I drove and enjoying the change - but still reaching for the park break handle........

Car handles well, more toey than I thought it'd be, especially when slipped into S. Not given it much yet, but want to shortly when in the car alone. After being in a big car so years, am finding it funny how big cars react when they cant go past a smaller car as easily as they'd expect to be able to do!

The start/stop seems pretty good in the right traffic circumstances.

Has been surprising me from time to time in the 250k's I've driven so far, like the additional lighting when cornering, and the led lighting in the car at night. Lots of nice touches.

One thing I'll have to get VW to check out is voice control which does not do anything except mute the audio, and no menu option for it (I'm assuming a firmware upgrade may be needed?). No help from the manual so far unless i missed it. The manual gives info on the side mirror dipping in reverse.

Am moving music to an SD card to get the album art to display, as bluetooth streaming does not support this by the looks.

Salesmen don't know the car that well. One advised that I could adjust the dash lighting with a roller wheel in the dash - turns out this is the headlight height adjuster as dash lights are adjusted in the car's settings menu.

I've read that voice control is disabled in Australia - I'm hoping/assuming that can be fixed with a simple VCDS coding change (once Ross-Tech work out which code it is)
In the Mk6 voice control can be turned on/off via VCDS (connecting a laptop to the car), if it's' off then the button works as a pause/mute which you have described
The dashboard lighting is adjusted by a roller next to the headlight height in the Mk6 as well, so a bit of confusion there - I've also heard that the salespeople are a bit under-trained with the new Golf.

Sounds good Nauend. Mine is still a ways off.

Re music on SD card: I think that is the way I will go. Are there instructions on how to set up directories, album art etc? Wouldn't mind getting this done before the car arrives.

Ordered a 90TSI manual comfortline in limestone grey today with paint, tint, mudflaps and mats for $26,800. Manufacture date was March this year. Should have it in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it!

I was looking at either the 90TSI or the 103TSI and when I took the 90TSI for a test drive I was surprised how punchy the engine was. It was ample for my needs and a nice enough drive so decided on the lower model (that and I still prefer manual for now).

I picked up my white 90 TSI manual with the 16" Toronto wheels off the Comfortline yesterday $24200 driveaway - which was over $4000 less than I paid for my white Mk6 90 TSI manual 3 years ago. Have just done over 200km already and it is quieter, smoother riding, tighter more solid feeling, noticeably faster - I guess that's what 61kg less weight does - and waaaaay better equipped. Looks better too and the doors shut with an even more solid thunk. And this one had better not blow a turbo or VW will be very hard to forgive. And the engine still isn't as "sweet" as the Forester's with a lot less character. It still amazes me how well it pulls in the upper gears on hills though but it still has that soft spot just above idle and then comes on more strongly than the Mk6 around 1500 rpm. re the sales service I guess there's a lot they still have to get familiar with. They looked so smug whipping the cover off mine to present it in the delivery room but you should have seen the confused looks when I pointed out the they hadn't put the black covers on the wheel nuts. 20 were quickly found. Also I have checked the oil for the first time this morning and it was only half way between the marks. Perhaps it wasn't filled fully when predelivery was performed so after my last experience of 1L use every 3000km I'll be keeping a close check.

I'm surprised that you've decided to go with Volkswagen again, given your comments in other threads regarding VW reliability. Thought the Mk7 was good enough to take a risk on?

They're not the only one. My co-workers are scratching their heads after I replaced the 2010 Polo GTI with another Golf 110TDI...

But they avoided the DSG7 gearbox like I did...so perhaps we're on to something here?

I am a bit too but I looked and looked and drove (and nearly threw up at times - there is some tasteless crap out there) and in the end just couldn't get myself to lay down the money on an i30. And the Golf really does sell itself in the end. A long test drive in the country did it. I figured that I couldn't be unlucky again and it was worth another try. I have just had (and am having) such a good run with the last 3 Jap cars and to have the turbo fail and oil use issues on the Mk6 90 TSI was a bit depressing at times. It was such an endearing journey also for much of the time. Actually it was sold privately to an admiring lady and for a price I couldn't refuse so I hope things go well with it. It was trouble free when I let it go and she'll be used to adding a bit of oil occasionally by the look of the heap she was in.

The manual does include detail, such as no more than 1,000 entries in a playlist, and 256 characters in a path/name. Fairly straight forward. I've set my sd card up with all songs in the one folder for the time being, so I can use the random function across all songs while I set up some playlists.

Album art sizes are discussed elsewhere on this site or search thru google etc - they need to be embedded into the idtag, and small enough to be displayed. I used a pic of the car as the album art for any song that I need to find the artwork for!

The artwork for the radio stations can be uploaded to the stereo, and needs to be no more than 400 X 240 pixels - it does look good.
