Y’all. Dealer called and said my R special edition is IN! Can’t wait to take it for a test drive next Thursday! (Gonna be a long week tho). I’m driving it straight from the dealer to the ceramic coater 7km away, LOLz.

Went in to the dealer and took the R Special Edition (w roof) for a 20 min spin. Was satisfied, …so I bought it! Done deal. No photos though because I had asked them not to touch the paint so the car looked kinda crappy sitting out in the sun with watermarks on it. Plus still had the protective bonnet, roof, b-pillar stuff on which diminished the excitement of picking up a “new car” somewhat. Dropped it off at the ceramic coater to do their work. Photos forthcoming after Sunday when it’s looking slick.

Happy to finally get my arse in an R!

That's the best way to avoid any dealer-inflicted paint damage. I'm sure you'll be happy with the final result when your detailer is finished with it. Then the fun can begin

Smart move. Best way to minimise the amount of correction work the detailer has to do is to get the car with all the protective plastics still on it.

Finally got my paws on the detailed R special edition! Lapiz blue looked amazing after the ceramic coater did their work. This time it felt like getting a new car

Took these shots a couple hundred metres from the detailer. Bonus reason to pick your car up on a nice looking Sunday when the industrial areas are quiet.

Got a few days along the great ocean road in Vic to learn how to drive the thing (and how to turn of lane assist (which seems like it’ll be a great idea on long straight boring roads)).

Anyway, congrats! I LOVED my GTI when I was in the US. Best car I ever owned, and bonus: it was the first car I ever bought new. Cars are stupid cheap over there. Paid under US$26K for mk6 Autobahn (top trim).
As you may be gathering Australia is home of the uniquely named Golf, aka Original, 40th Edition etc.

It never amused Commodore buyers that a car built here was sold with a higher spec for less money in the States.

It did give me a bit of a tickle and maybe even a bit of nostalgia when I saw the occasional rebadged Commodore in the States. I used to own an ‘86 Commodore wagon which was a great car for being in a band

They've ended up with their own unique following (and parts options) due to the Nissan six under the hood. I had a few LS V8s before I caught the VW --> VAG --> Euro bug again.

I must admit that the LS engine range is pretty amazing. I feel that there will need to be an LS3 in my life at some point.

    I hear you.

When I was looking for my current ride - and I'm not sure I was looking seriously or not - I did trawl through quite a few last of the line HSVs.

When I look at the lines of things like the new Audi E-tron GT concept and think, how good would this thing look disappearing into the distance with the sound of combustion. Lot's of it. Sigh..
