Dealers don't normally use Acid.... they just sell the stuff!

Just called VW Southern and they said the Vehicle is complete and they should see the VIN number in the next few days. They also said, that it will be shipped on the 17th July with a 28th of August entry into Australia, so I am assuming there are a couple of R Drivers that are waiting like me.

I don't know if this is bad news but Saturday night I dreamt that I was driving the Golf R and I tell you it was great, (probably more people looking at the car then in real life and me getting concerned because I wanted the opposite). The only issue was the next day I went out and it was gone... AaAagh!!! I woke up stressed.

HI there. Our VIN number was given to us on ordering, about 3 weeks before the car was built. Their system then updated itself with more dates: start of build, completion of build, out of factory date and shipping date. These dates came out of a website our dealer logged onto and took a screenshot for us. Hope this helps.

Picked up my new GTI 5 days ago - carbon steel, leather & sunroof. Very happy with it. It was a car that was in stock, and whilst i didn't care for the sunroof, i was happy to go for it rather than wait till nov. Dealer experience was painless, no attempt to sell me any extras.
I do however seem to have the dreaded wiper smear.

I am glad to report that when I went back to Barloworld Glen Waverley to get my wipers looked at, they happily changed them over to "a special set of blades" without any hassle. This is even after I could not notice the smear that day. He did say that the windscreen needs a good polish or something because there is some road grime on it so it may still do it. But it is much better anyway.

I even mentioned about the rattle and he was happy for me to book in a service so he can see do a road test and try to replicate it. But I am not really hearing the rattle at the moment so will hold off on that.

EDIT - Just received a call from Barloworld customer relations to see if the service department helped me out satisfactorily and if I was happy with the service

    Hi Flipper,

I'd rather not mention it on a public forum but I will say, apart from the week delay (which I was annoyed about but has since past), I've been happy with how the rest of the purchase has gone. Apparently I can pick up my car Friday and I'll report back with how the delivery went. Not long now

No worries mate, I think you will find the delay wasn't the dealers fault they would have loved the sale to close off the financial year with. Your going to love the GTI mine still surprises me, in good ways, after 10000kms together.

It's finally in my garage. First impressions, very nice. I quite like the stock interior of the performance pack, that when driving I can't see the windscreen wipers, xenons and cornering lights, well insulated cabin, handling and nice little exhaust note when up shifting under hard acceleration. I need to be a little more easy on the loud pedal from a stationary start as I had what seemed to be axel tramp a couple of times which wasn't a nice feeling. I need to find my pressure gauge and see what the tyres are reading but I think I just need to get use to the DSG and find out how it responds best. I found the ride on the 19's and sport mode very easy going but when just cruising in normal mode, the shift points are terrible and makes the car feel way too sluggish. I don't think I like the stop/start feature but I do like the auto hold but it can be a but touchy in heavy stop start traffic. Haven't had the chance to use the radar cruise or auto park yet. The delivery went so smooth with the car being presented perfectly with 9km on the ODO. Very happy with the whole process of purchasing my first VW, even with the week delay as I feel it was well worth it.

Congrats Acid! Thanks for the mini road test report. Good summary. It's also going to make my wait til Wednesday a bit longer now! Yes my GTI PP will be right to go very soon. I'm glad I sold my Merc and that I'm coming back to a GTI. Have fun over the weekend Acid.

^ Thanks irossiter. Yeah, fair to say I'll be doing a fair bit of driving over the weekend. Might look into some window tint too.
Hopefully Wednesday goes well for you. Not long to go now

I'm getting the fronts tinted and UV film put on the rears. Should come up ok against the white. Enjoy the driving!
