I've just come back from my local VW dealership and ordered my very first VW.I paid the deposit and ordered a Pure White Golf R with DSG.After many years of driving it's not only my very first "automatic" but also my first awd.
I don't know the delivery date but they'll contact me mid next week I'm very excited!
I was contemplating a Golf GTI,Golf PP and the Scirocco R(2015),but what swayed me was the awd and that the prices(GTI PP and Scirocco)were quite close to the Golf R so for a few grand more, the awd Golf won the day.
It will be down on power/torque compared to my current car but the dsg and awd will more than make up for the "deficit"

    Cool

I've never seen anybody in this thread mention receiving one of these communications from VW so not sure if this is a new initiative from them ...

Anyway, once I registered I finally had my VIN and was able to see our car landed in Melbourne on 16/10 aboard a Korean (?) ship.

I'm hoping receiving this official communication from VW means our new GTI is only days away now. Hoping

Sorry I should have said this was an email not a letter.

Got my email today... (but still don't have my car thanks to the recall which apparently only affects certain batches of Golfs and Polos)

Is it just me (and my wife) but do they send these out addressed with both your first and middle names and not just your first name? (My drivers licence is about the only thing I carry on me that has my full name so that's where VW must have got it from)

I've sent them an email asking if I could get any further correspondence and website access addressed to just my first name...

The excitement is building in our household as we've just been told our standard Golf GTI will be ready for pickup Tuesday next week

    Few quick questions

    1. Is there anything I should definitely go over with the dealer before handing over money and taking possession of the car?
    2. At time of ordering there was some confusion with the question of floor mats. ie. as to whether these come standard or do I have to fork over extra for them. Find it hard to believe a circa $50k car wouldn't have floor mats thrown in??
    3. Is Tint-A-Car still the best mob to get tinting done in Melbourne?

    thanks

Check the paint and wheels for scratches and marring. Mats should be standard (they were for me)

Confirm that mats are standard with the GTI. Check all wheels thoroughly for marks, especially around the outer rim. Sight down the side of the car to check for minor door dings. General paint and check all seats for loose threads or stitching. Yes, I am OCD about my car!!!

This is a screenshot of the checklist I used. Another forum had one and I adjusted it as I saw fit.

Try and request for touch up paint and a small bottle of oil. I was only successful in getting the oil, fortunately I haven't had to top up my car over the last 8,000km.

Floor mats should be included as standard on the GTi from memory.
