F#%k, just went to pick up my daughter and the noise is back, peace lasted for 3 days.
That’s great news, it would be good to know what they did so I could fix mine??

Hey forum readers and fellow VW fans, I was going to start a new thread about lower control arm bushes but decided to use this existing thread.
I had the same issue you guys are talking about, same response from dealer at servicing. The dealer applied some lanolin spray and the noise was gone until it rained. As my car is now out of warranty and the car was driving pretty poorly I decided to get a suspension specialist to look at it, I contacted Pedders as they do a $28 Brakes, Steering and Suspension Check. After having Pedders perform the check, they informed me the front right lower control arm bush at the rear had failed and the rear shocks were leaking (leaky shocks are a known issue but there is "some tolerances" that VW allow, not my issue at the moment because they did not show any faults in the test other than dampness at the seal.). Turns out the bush had been like that for some time and had been reported to VW during the warranty period. I spoke to the dealer about the outcome of the "$28 Brakes, Steering and Suspension Check" and what was wrong. The dealer said they could do a out of warranty good will claim since the issue is on the notes in the servicing history. They would just need a copy of the Pedders report, do their own investigation and place a claim to VWA. In one of my many questions I asked, would VW only replace the broken bush or would they replace all of them, the answer was "most likely only the one". With this information in hand I decided I didn’t want to mess around with one bush on 100k and the other new, so I had aftermarket bushes installed.
Some of the issues I noticed and some I was not aware off are until the bushes were fixed:
- Creaking noise going in and out of driveways, especially when one arm was articulating when the other wasn't.
- Squeaking noise over speed humps.
- Poor traction/wheel stability over damaged bitumen, also being a diesel with lots of torque if it broke traction in the wet it would wheel tramp very harshly and would break traction quiet easily.
- Excessive play in the steering wheel, constant correction was need to go in a straight line. This affected ACC.
- When the bush finally gave way excessive tyre ware started to appear on the FR wheel.
- Finally there was generally a noisy ride throw out the car, would almost think the rear suspension was loose as well.
So the hunt for new LCA bushes started, After many years of reading car mags, somewhere in the back of my mind I wanted Whiteline parts, but after plenty of research I learnt that Superpro do a Polyurethane replacement bush as well and are easier to get and install. I called and spoke to several different mechanics and finally found someone who could replace all my LCA bushes at a reasonable rate and was close to home. I initially wanted to go for a full LCA replacement with bushes already fitted by Whiteline as these were cheaper than Superpro's LCA kit delivered and then there was the but "you don’t have the tools to do the work yourself silly". Turns out thanks to my DSG I need to undo all engine mounts and lift the engine so one bolt could clear 85mm and be removed. If I had a manual gearbox, no worries mate just unbolt the LCA and install the new arms.
So what Superpro bushes did I have installed? I went for the SPF4178K - Control Arm Lower-Rear Bush Kit - Double Offset and the SPF4175K - Control Arm Lower-Front Bush Kit. The LCA rear bush kit came with castor correction. (The centre hole is off centre as opposed to OEM being set in the middle) Once the bushes were fitted I had new RE003's fitted and wheel alignment to square everything up. I would say replacing the OEM LCA bushes is a must. The car drives better, all the complained issues have gone and the car feels more in touch with the road and you can feel it get the power to the ground rather then it being absorbed in to the OEM bush or tramping its way down the road.
Thanks for reading and I hope this helps anyone else diagnosing their problem and for $28 the Pedders reports it was worth it.
Problem seems to have been fixed now, it took 2 attempts something to do with the front shock absorber rubber covers but shes been whisper quite for the last two weeks.
