Something definitely sounds loose or worn there. I know the Mk5 and Mk6 Golf's were notorious for wearing out the strut tops rubber mounts and bearings in the front which would result in movement when going over bumps and it would make noise as a result - not sure if the Mk7 suffers this same type of issue. Thankfully its a relatively cheap part.

Thanks, this will be my fourth trip to the VW dealership to look at this issue, they previously could hear the noise but couldnt identify the source. Whilst the car is now outside the warranty period they mentioned they will cover it as the issue was raised whilst under the warranty period.

I wonder if the dealership have left the front suspension spacers in? When the cars are made in Germany they put some rubber/poly spacers in the front springs to raise the front of the car up so that it doesnt scrape going on and off ramps when it goes on the boats/trucks etc. A friend i work with bought a Mk7 Golf R in late 2015 and the dealer didnt remove the suspension spacers (they are supposed to remove them as part of the pre-delivery process) and his front suspension was not only making some strange noises but the car rode quite hard too as the spacers do not allow the suspension to absorb bumps properly.

This is obviously quite obvious to see and diagnose, so im hoping if you have been into the dealership multiple times previously this would have been rules out.

If you look at the front springs you will be able to see if there is anything there. Apart from this, the car sits noticeably higher (than it should) at the front (a good 2-3cm) if the spacers have been left in there.

Should make the same noise if some one pushes down on each corner as if going over a speed hump,
While some one get under the car and listens ,

I had this issue as well I complained and complained and the local dealer did nothing so I started replacing bushes and 034 top mounts then went back to VW as no better. They said was the TOP mounts after a lot of backwards and forwards I went back to brand new top mounts from VW. Its better but not perfect.

On mine they replaced the top mount to no effect. But when I sprayed some silicone spray on to the control arm bushes, the noise disappeared. The longer term solution is to have those bushes greased with lithium grease.
