    To be honest these cars have been mostly the same since 2013 mechanically, the only real thing thats changed is electrical things such as the dash, audio system and a bunch of other unnecessary driver & lane assist features. In that year range, id say go with the one you get the best deal on as everything MY18 and above pretty much had all these features standard.

    edit: not sure why i thought you meant GTI/R.. brain auto correct lol

    Edit: GTI info only

    MY18 = 169kw/350nm engine with 6 speed wet clutch DSG. Three options: driver assist (adaptive cruise and park assist etc), luxury pack (leather and sunroof) and infotainment pack (digital dash, dynaudio and knobless media sceeen)

    MY19 = 180kw/370nm engine with new 7 speed wet clutch DSG and upgraded brakes from the R. New standard features are digital dash, driver assist pack and mechanical diff (LSD). Deleted feature is dynamic cornering lights (which means only single DRLs instead of double). This update also lost the DSG fart but has a much nicer exhaust note. Two options: luxury pack (leather and sunroof) and sound and vision pack (19inch Brescia wheels, Dynaudio and knobless media screen).

    The main difference is that MY18 was standard GTI and MY19 is GTI Performance, as the standard GTI is no longer in production. Overseas, it’s still called GTI Performance. In Australia, the name didn’t change but the specification did.

    With a fairly big jump in performance figures and the limited slip diff, the MY19 is a much better package.

    I was looking at both earlier this year and ended up with a brand new MY19 with luxury pack for a touch over $48k on road in June. Wasn’t much more money than the “ex VW executive” used models floating about at the time, that dealers refused to negotiate on.

    Note: MY19 and MY19.5 are identical, the 19 is built in 2018 and the 19.5 built in 2019

    Oops, not sure why I thought this was a GTI specific post.

    For the entire range, no changes MY19 to MY19.5. For MY18 to MY19, the Highline scored the driver assist pack as standard and the Comfortline scored push button start/keyless entry plus folding mirrors, both weren’t available on MY18 even as options.

    What model are you looking at?

    At least on the R, the MY19 ditched the borderless rear view mirror and now has a border, plus the discover pro no longer has the internal flash storage available for music storage. The reversing sensors now no longer come out of the front/rear according to where the sensors are.

    MY19 = 2018 build, but 2019 spec
    MY19.5 = 2019 build, 2019 spec
