With mine on shuffle i can drive an hour or so and never here the same track. You can also make up playlists from within them if you want to or select from the Jukebox.

Is a far better unit than previous cars RNS 510
Nothing to be lost from giving it a go.

What do you do with thousands of tracks at your fingertips anyway? There isn't really a good way to trawl through them... so is it just one great big bucket of shuffling?

I was like that in the early days which led to the purchase of a Creative Zen Touch. A 20GB MP3 player which came with all the promise of being an external HDD and didn't need iTunes to work... Except that being an external HDD wasn't added for years until a firmware update and it while it didn't need iTunes it did needs it's own dedicated (and terrible) music app to sync stuff. Honestly, a few years later the iPod I bought was a massive step forward in ease of use and features.

I had two 160GB iPod Classic units, one in each car, for a long long time before selling them because they just weren't needed. Phones had evolved to a point where they had more than enough storage to keep plenty enough of your music on them, which has in turn evolved to just streaming anything you might want to listen to (and mobile coverage along the freeways is now almost perfect).

Which leads to the next question for jggolf, why not just load your music onto your phone and play it from there and do away with the SD card completely?

I can't see the point of using MP3's when the unit is capable of playing far better formats such as FLAC but I understand that MP3 is what most people continue to use for some reason despite the poor quality even at 320.

I currently have, but are adding regularly, about 4,700 tracks on my iPod from my CD collection or music I have downloaded from the www and edited. I have the software for that as I do some community radio. Music is total joy on the open road enjoying life. I guess some people do not get the simplicity of that. I see you are a country music fan.

Firstly our phones are just that, mobile phones. They are not a body extension as some people seem to need them to be. I only make calls on mine. OMG! When we go away in my Pajero for weeks at a time the iPod, with over two weeks of music just on shuffle, is the go to unit. I like my music a lot. The media system in the Alltrack is CRAP compared to my 2014 Pajero. That plays anything I have in the SD slot. I have worked out a file structure that will allow the SD card to play the music in the VW. It will take a bit of setting up but I have the time for that. The dealer we approached with questions about why the audio system would not do the same as my Pajero did not have a clue. And, any sales person who does not fully understand their product really pisses me off.
