Has anyone else had an issue with brakes on their Mk VII? Mine has just under 400 kilometres on it and the rear left rotor still has surface rust and rear right looks like the pads are only making light contact with 50% of the rotor surface. After 25 minutes of CBD traffic this morning the rotor was still cool enough to touch. I called the dealership to book the car in to be looked at and their attitude is the next available time is Monday 19 August. Needless to say I am not happy with the attitude of the dealer. Considering this is a car that went through "dealer delivery" a week ago VW are not off to a good start.

Pads need to bed-in. Try a several moderately forceful stops from 80kmh down to 40kmh allowing a few minutes of driving afterwards for temperatures to stabilise.

If the mkVII is like the MkV/VI then the rear brakes should come on first under light braking.

I wouldn't worry about the heat unless you are really getting up them. I drive Hurstville to Cambelltown & the brake rotors are touchable at the end of that journey.

Crap dealer experience & you live in the inner west? That must be the dealer that starts with B & ends with world.

I have gone through the usual bedding in process which is why I questioned the dealer. I eventually threw a tantrum and had it looked at this morning, they tell me there is nothing wrong "rotors will cool down enough to be touched within a couple of hundred metres" - I suspect some of the race teams want to get on to that technology, the car is not showing any error costs and I must not be braking hard enough because "it is a light car". I've had a Mk IV, Mk V and an Audi A4, never had rotors cold enough to touch after 45 minutes in peak hour stop start traffic before.

The dealer was't my local but a Parramatta based dealer.

It's a light car - LOL. What are they - about 1450kg? That's more than a HQ Holden. These dealership people certainly make some funny comments.

I think the comparison of driving in crappy Sydney peak hour traffic & racing cars is somewhat flawed but I get what you mean (lived in Glebe & Randwick for many years).

About the only thing you can do now is observe, document & continue to put your case forward in a reasonable yet insistent manner. Make sure they give you a work sheet that has the problem & their findings written on it

We will see how they look after a spirited (but totally legal) run through Kangaroo Valley on the weekend.

    1326kg for a 110TDI, I'm guessing not including liquids/fuel/passengers/breakfast.

Nope because with over 8000km on it there is still no sign of the rattle.

You're lucky then. Mine had it from day one, and the sound is spectacularly annoying.
