    In answer to Q5:

I have a MY16 Golf R and it only has the illuminated door trims in the front of the car.

    Hi Don,

I received the diagnostics report today, everything was fine, the service guys tried to recreate the shudder from the DSG by doing hill starts on a steep hill, there were no further signs of issues. So I have accepted the car, I have 2 more years to go on the extended DSG warranty so I will see how things go. Thanks again for the advice.

    Hi all
A new member and need a quick question answer.
I'm from Adelaide and will be doing a lot of driving from Boxing Day to Broken hill then on to Dubbo then back via Hay and extra driving..
anybody suggest a bonnet protector that I can get before then?
Also any headlight protection or other options I should consider to protect the front of the car from bugs etc??

Looking a some quick options if anybody can help.

    Thanks

You are definitely going to need it, I'm a rep driving out through Dubbo and surrounds quarterly, I'm up for a big respray...

I'm curious as well. Ive looked into car bras but heard they can scratch the paint if dirt gets trapped underneath them. I've Been told you can get a clear wrap put on and it works just as good.

The other thing you might look at is bug protection for the radiator air-con fins etc.
I recently did Brisbane Townsville through swarms of butterflies. Had to stop several times just to clean the windscreen, the washer- wipers couldn't cope.
So I expected to see fins clogged, but a former owner of the Mk 3 had fitted 5mm plastic mesh inside everything around the bar and grille, not fancy, it just sits there,- the car used to do Adelaide to Broken Hill trips I'm told, - so was a quick cleanup.

Get some of the Blue masking tape (the one that is designed to be outdoors and come off easily and mask the front off. Dont forget the mirrors & leading edge of the roof and the wheel spray area behind the tyres.

Long term get some clear film applied.

Get some fly wire and cable tie it over the grilles

    Hi Brad

    Thanks for your help..

I'll definitely look at fly wire.. I'll just have to see what areas on the golf that'll need it.. then work out some ideas..

The tapes a great suggestion... may I ask what sort of tape??
Does it have to be blue?? It looks nice on your motor. But my golf just happens to be black. Mk7 Golf TSI & TDI - Observations and Questions.
Im assuming I find something at one of the hardware stores!
Would it leave too much residue once taken off???

Also would the standard VW headlight protectors be ok?? The car's going in for a service on Wednesday and I can get some fitted.

I don't use headlight protectors. Headlights are plastic anyway.
I did Syd-Bkn Hill - Syd last month and if you don't tailgate, your headlights should be OK.

    The image isn't my car.

The colour is the colour. Blue is 14 day removal. Green is 5 day. Gold is 60 day.

Ideally you'd get a clear wrap but that won't be happening 3 days out from christmas.
