Running in ? Hmmm they reckon its run in, BUT they way I drive will be good for running in anyway, god combination of highway, city.
Fuel economy divide 15.5 into 100 and its about 6.45l per 100 k
I'm really driving normally and that's why I'm happy with the figures especially with a new engine. So tempting to slip into Sport mode and go crazy though.

It takes up to 10,000km to fully bed-in an engine. You also need to bed-in the driveline, brakes, etc.

VW, give the engines a squirt on the bench but the engines are nowhere near run-in.

Surely it's easier to use the ISO standard rather than a format that was phased out 35 years back?

I've 1,300Km done and the longer term economy is 7.0l/100km, since fill is 6.5l/100km and on my journey home tonight from work 20min on the pacific highway in 'economy' using ACC I'm getting 5.1l/100km.

The engine still has quite a way to go before it's full bedded-in, so potentially I could get highway driving in the high 4'sl/100km.

I'm also delighted with the ACC and that I got the Driver Assistance package, a must have for any hig. Just for that short 20min highway journey I take it's freaking perfect, how are other people finding it ?

I did have one incident the other day when a motorcycle cut in-between myself and the car in front and the ACC did not detect. Luckily I read the manual and it clearly states to look out for this so I was able to dab on the breaks and take over. No biggie, but it's not totally foolproof.

Using Cruise Control this early in the running-in process isn't a good idea as it tends to unload the engine too much. I'd be forgetting all about trying to get good fuel economy for the first 3,000km.

I'm not a fan of ACC (or Brake radar, etc). Wife had it in her Mondeo & it was too conservative & left too big a gap, so people just cut in front of you & slowed you down all the time.

Maybe the VW version is a bit better.

I agree when using it for longer periods of time >30mins. When I use it its usually >20mins, preceded and followed by city traffic so there's a nice mix.

The VW system is fairly advanced, you can adjust the distance to the car in front which also changes depends on what driving mode you're in. 'Normal' Vs 'economy' has different default distances from the car ahead and when to apply the brakes / accelerates etc. You should take one on a test drive someday, you'll be impressed.

ACC is great. I've tried several of the "time/distance settings and have left it on the middle setting. I love that it pulls up behind a car in traffic and takes off gently exactly as if you were driving it yourself.
One thing to be mindful off is forgetting you have deactivated it and then expecting to brake in traffic for you
The thing that impresses me is the way the car handles in sport mode.

THere was one other thing I have noticed, whilst at lights and foot lightly on brake, the stop / start does NOT engage. It is when firm pressure on brake is applied then the car stops. Not sure if it is meant or be like that or is just an idiosyncrasy. However it is useful when in stop start traffic if you can't be bothered turning it off.

I was in Adelaide 12 months ago and hired an Audi A1 with start stop. It worked exactly as you have said, light pressure on the brake and statrt stop did not engage. Not surprising that the Golf operates in a similar manner.

I have also experienced the motor restarting by itself after start stop has been engaged. In this case I had the air con on and it must have decidied that to maintain teperature in the car it needed the motor on!

As long as the light brake pressure isn't causing any pressure on the DSG clutches.

Stop/start can be over ridden by cabin temp. If it get too hot in the cab the engine will start up. My mates XV does it as well
