    1. I get this too, reading manual didn't help me clear up anything. But the car works right?
    2. Which bonnet release? The one inside the driver's foot well, or the front of the car?
    3. I've got a 6 speed DSG, can't help you there.
    4. RainX?

    My turn:

    5. I find that the automatic rear view mirror anti glare isn't sensitive enough and still allows of bright light to hit you. Is there a way to adjust this to be more sensitive? I tested it using the LED flash of my smartphone, and it does work, but normal night driving it's practically useless.

Again it seems they have a basic base model almost so they can claim a lower starting price...
My dealer ended up charging me $900 for the Comfortline rims and tyres. That is the only option I got for my manual base model so I paid $2600 less than the Comfortline would have cost me. The dual zone climate control & reversing camera were the only things from the Comfortline I would have really liked but not at that price. Under seat drawers, rear centre armrest with cupholders, 12 volt power outlet in the luggage compartment & rear map lights were worth nothing to me as the rear seat will rarely get used. Auto lights and rain sensing wipers I've never had so don't miss them. What I do like is the brushed aluminium trim on the Comfortline rather than the plain look of the base model and both are much nicer than that piano black of the Highline.

I'm not completely sure if this is correct, but I was told by the dealer the 'check safety lock' message is because the car has both an internal lock and external lock. So if leaving someone in the car you should check that the internal lock is unlocked so they can get out if needed?

My bonnet release was quite stiff to start with, perhaps yours is the same? I haven't noticed that in the DSG and my wipers so far have been great, so I can't help you with that...

Safety Lock basically means that if you lock the car using the remote, if you have an occupant inside, they can't unlock the doors from the inside. It's a security feature though it can be a problem if your kids or passengers need to get out in an emergency.

If it is anything like previous models, then press the remote control twice to lock and now it will be locked from the outside, but not the inside. If you have an alarm, then pressing it one more time will see the alarm fire (panic alarm)

I remember the dealer telling me the twice to lock thing has now been removed in the Mk7.

Being new to VW, I wondered the same when I first saw the message. My dealer confirmed what Wai and DoggieHowser say above.
In other words it is not an issue, just an alert telling you that Safety Lock will be activated when you lock the car.

Unless you are the one locked in

Things like deadlocking the car (which is what it is) should always be the option and not the default, particularly when they keep changing descriptions that don't necessarily match what's in the manual.

    You have a point there

The displayed message initially gave me the impression there was a fault/setting that should be corrected. The truth only became apparent after reading the tome I found in the glovebox...gave me something to do whilst locked in the car
