I know this is not a solution to turning off Start/Stops but this review of the Golf DSG TDI talks about using the Hill Hold handbrake in conjunction with the Start/Stop function.
There is a big difference with Start/Stop tuned oh:
If you have hill hold on and you are stationary: The car's engine is off and will only start again once the accelerator is pressed.
If you have hill hold off and you are stationary while pressing the brake foot pedal: The car's engine is off and will start immediately once you lift your foot from the brake foot pedal.
I hope this might make a difference to people who would like to use this start/stop feature.
I have a few questions about the Driver Assistance Package, does anyone know if you get this option do you also get steering wheel mounted paddles of the DSG ? It would be fantastic if it did !!
I'm really only getting the Driver Assistance Package for the different driver modes plus the Active Cruise Control which I believe is worth the $1,300 alone. I hope I can use this as the deal breaker with my dealer :P
I find this a-bit worrying about the Auto Cruise:

anyone experienced similar?
there is that Golf7 bias again. it seems in nearly every post in that thread, the issue that a few had were when big trucks or busses were near, did you test that on the skid pan?
You can chat to the other 50 journos there, it did work perfectly. What do you expect me to say. The car performed to specification, with the vehicle retardation system, having been triggered by the Logic VDM Computer due to inputs of an oncoming collision coming from the front radar as well as camera, proceeded to decelerate the vehicle at 0.6 G, until the vehicle was completely stationary...
I had it out on the road, it worked well too...
I am sure it did work perfectly. But in real world situations, e.g as per that thread, a bus slightly in your lane, or pulling into a fast moving traffic queue to overtake something, it can occasionally be triggered it seems.
Death prompts VW owners to speak out
Thoughts?
If there's one thing that might make it work poorly it's that the radar/camera has been placed very low in the bumper, close to the road. Firstly in Europe, the glass will be completely opaque from the slush, the salt and the general dirt from the road. And in the long run it will probably get scratched by stones, gravel...
